World of Wizardry April 2017 review

Sorry that this review is a week overdue but I’ve been on holiday. Had 10days in Disneyworld Florida and so I’m now a little jetlagged. Sorry for any errors or ramblings that may occur as a consequence of my lack of decent sleep.

The subscription box that I am reviewing is a monthly box by Geekgear. It is called the World of Wizardry box and costs £24.95 per month on subscription. I pay in quarterly instalments so it is very slightly cheaper than a monthly payment. If you are interested, you can follow this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU  If you purchase through this link I get a point towards a free box so I greatly appreciate it. They have other boxes, one of which is a Harry Potter wearable box, filled with Potter themed clothes. Or a standard GeekGear box, I think next month’s theme is Power Rangers.

There has been one major change that I can see in this box and that is its new booklet. It now has a magazine type guide which shows you the items you will receive, the next month’s box hint, and all others details. It makes the box feel a little more professional but other than that I was once again disappointed with this month’s box contents.

The first item that I opened was yet another wand. They always feel a bit cheap and to make it worse, this was a GeekGear Exclusive. It was a lot better than last month’s exclusive item in my opinion but, they seem to include a lot of wands which is a bit boring after a while. You could get different shades of wand to dictate its rarity, gold or silver. Mine was a sort of woody colour so I’m not sure if it’s the standard wand or if it was supposed to be gold. It’s pretty but a bit pointless (no pun intended) I have a previous two from this box and this is a better quality then those, but still nothing special. It’s not at a displayable quality like wand replicas are but it will go in a box to be played with if there are ever any kids around.

This wasn’t the only Exclusive item in the box, there were also…shoelaces. Hmmm, now don’t get me wrong! They’re very nice quality, house themed shoelaces. I’m just 99% sure that I have seen them before, or at least, very, very, similar. They will be used and I liked them, just not sure they could be classed as ‘exclusive.’

This box was really treating us, there is a third ‘exclusive’ item, socks. I’ve not tried them on yet but if they’re anything like the last socks I received in this box then they’ll fit but not be very elasticated once on. It’s a nice little design so I can get away with Potterfying myself at work which I usually can’t. I like them and it is a nice thought.

There a key with wings pin badge, which is also, alright. Nothing to jump up and down over, nice quality, fairly heavy, kind of useless, pin badge. It will probably go on my Uni wall just so I can flick the moveable wings when I’m in procrastination/boredom mode.

As usual we had some posters, there is always one as standard, this month there were three. The A4 print that is a nice depiction of Aragog, and two rolled up posters. The poster depicting the graffiti type image of the houses was double sided and one of my favourite items of the box. It’s very vibrant and if I get bored of one side I can turn it over. This is coming back to University with me in September. The other was a J.K.Rowling quote. To be fair, it’s nice, but I found it a bit cringe worthy. I’m not a big fan of ‘inspirational’ quotes, I think I’m too cynical for them. This one just seemed a bit forced, but it looks okay on paper.

One of the nicer but non-fancy items in the box, were the Vinyl Stickers. I can see these going in the car once I feel like I can stay awake long enough to drive again. They are subtle and nicely designed. I can’t comment on the quality as I don’t really buy vinyl stickers so I don’t know what is classed as good or bad. I like them, and I will use them, so I’m happy.

Then last but not least we have the t-shirt. It’s a nice colour and I like the printing around the bird. I’m being a bit fussy with this box but, the bird was not representing the majestic eagle (or raven according to some) very well. In fact, it looks a bit too much like a long beaked Pidgeon. It’s a nice t-shirt though and always good quality so it will be worn.

Overall, I’m sure you guessed that I really wasn’t blown away by this month’s box. It’s been too long since I’ve had a ‘wow’ box and I’m really hoping that Geekgear pull their thumb out for next month. I look forward to the boxes but I now have a feeling of doubt when they arrive. I want the old excitement back. Please let me know what you guys think of your boxes, I want to know if it’s just me being really ungrateful or if everyone is less than thrilled with them recently.

Thank you as always for reading, I apologise once again for my rambles, to make up for it I share with you my purchases of Universal Studios Harry Potter world. It’s Crookshanks and Scabbers! Oh, and Peppermint toads! Now going in there was exciting!

World of Wizardry Christmas box review

My November box arrived today! So excited for this one as it’s the Christmas box! If you don’t want any spoilers your probably better off skipping this post. The link for the box is https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU there are multiple subscriptions available and they deliver Worldwide!

Ok on opening the box the first item was this month’s t-shirt. The colour is perfect for me, don’t buy a lot of red but I love this shade! A little disappointed that they didn’t offer it in the house colours but not too bothered by it. Christmas colour so it will get a lot of wear over the next month.

The next item was the little piggy bank. Its small and cute and has a little lightening scar on its head. I need to name him and I’m thinking Newt in honour of the new film having just been released. What do you guys think? Anyways he’s quite soft and a little rubbery but he’s perfect and will live happily on my desk collecting my change to pay for food.

Next up was the Christmas gift and it was a wand! This is my second replica from these boxes and the first one was Voldemorts which I found a little cheap looking but it was still nice enough. This one is Harry Potters wand, the quality is fantastic and it’s a nice replica. Mine did let me down a little though as there are some bits of paint chipped off in places. Not too bad but still enough to make me sad.

I was really curious what was in the little box. I was excited because I thought it was going to be my very own vault key and that would have been amazing. At first when I saw it was a coin I was a little let down but once I got over it not being a key I did fall in love. It’s a very nice Galleon that is actually quite heavy. Its good quality and comes in a case and it really is a nice little addition to the box.

There was a lovely lanyard in house colours so mine was Ravenclaw. It’s a nice soft material so good quality. I’m not sure what I will use it for yet, think for my work ID or maybe to hold my house and car keys when I get home. Will have to see how I feel.

The artwork this month followed the Christmas theme and showed the Weasley family on Christmas morning and little Dobby getting a sock. Very cute. Really wish it had the older Weasleys as I love Bill and Charlie and even Percy but the picture is still stunning and will be added to my wall shortly.

On the theme of artwork, you also get a Fantastic Beast postcard and 4 Christmas cards in two designs. The postcard seemed a little pointless but the cards are sweet. The Dobby one is my favourite and nobody is going to receive these, okay maybe my family so they don’t leave the house!

That’s it for this box, must admit it wasn’t my favourite, in fact as a Christmas box I expected it to be a bit more ‘special’ other than the outward box design and the theme of the guide, it wasn’t all that festive. I love the shirt and the piggybank so it wasn’t a let-down and still well worth the £24.95 for the box.

I’m was thinking of swapping over to my actual house of Hufflepuff but I can’t risk a yellow t-shirt. I really do not look good in yellow. I am a proud Hufflepuff though!

Anyways, as always please let me know what you thought of the review this month and if your interested in subscribing please use this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

it shows that you were referred through me and I could eventually get a free box. Plus, I love to see that people have enjoyed what I have shown them enough to go out and get it for themselves. Next box as the clue of the Hogwarts crest which is exciting! img_1851

You guys rock and I’m sorry my updates have been sparse. Only 12 more assignments to go for this year then I’ll be back to weekly updates, I hope.

GeekGear World of Wizardry September 2016 review

It’s here! My second GeekGear Harry Potter box! They have changed its name to the ‘World of Wizardry’ box. After all the goodies I received last month I went back and paid for a three-month subscription as you save a little bit of money if you pay in bulk. This box does deliver Worldwide as far as I’m aware so please check it out. The link is: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

The link I share takes you to the website but if you purchase a box then it shows that you found the box through me. If five of you lovely readers purchase a subscription using this link, then I get a free box so pretty please share the love!

On to the actual review. I received an email on the 21st to say the box was posted and it arrived on the 23rd. It would have been next day if I didn’t live on a campus, so super quick delivery. Every box is decorated as a crate and has the Harry Potter crests on either side. They continue this theme with any smaller boxes inside which is pretty cool. I also love the fact they use coloured paper in the box depending on your Hogwarts house. Mine is blue which as I mentioned in my previous blog, I chose Ravenclaw even though I’m a Hufflepuff as I prefer the colour scheme. You can choose which house you like or just to receive a mix, depends on personal preference.

In every box there is a pamphlet that shows the information on all the items and the box itself. It also gives a hint of what the following months theme will be. October’s hint is: Hogwarts Express.

My favourite item in this box was the Ollivanders t-shirt, the sizing is perfect (you select in advance) and I like the fact it is a darker colour as the white one from last month has gone into the pyjama shirt pile. Still wear it a lot though! The quality of their shirts is amazing and you get a shirt in every box that is unique to Geekgear so you don’t want to miss out!

This month even included a Lord Voldemort replica wand! It’s really solid and I don’t have one already! I have Snape’s and I think I have Luna’s but none of the others so it’s great for this to go in my collection. It even comes with a note of authenticity!

Another item them I don’t have is a Deathly Hallows necklace, it’s something I’ve been meaning to purchase as I love the design. This one is pretty sturdy, still obviously costume jewellery but it’s nice quality. I actually have it hung on my noticeboard over the Azkaban poster that also came in the box. It’s great to finally have a bit of decoration up. Anyways, the necklace does have a spinning inner circle which is a nice touch and will be worn as often as I can get away with.

The next item is personalized per your house request, it’s a Proud to be ‘Ravenclaw’ badge, it’s a decent size and is currently also attached to my noticeboard. Maybe by the end of the year I will have a Harry Potter themed board thanks to this box! If I do, I’ll make sure to share a few pictures!

Another really useful item is the tea towel. It has Hogwarts written across it and whilst it’s a bit big it arrived just in time. Like I said, back on campus and I only brought one tea towel so I would have been off to buy another soon, now it’s a Hogwarts one! Thank you GeekGear!

I did find the little blank Hogwarts letters a bit boring. I know some people will love being able to print out their own Hogwarts acceptance letter or they might even print them out for their kids. I know I’d have loved one for my 11th birthday, but as I’m going on 25 I know that my letter was lost in the post back then. I will hang on to these and maybe build them into my wall of Potter?

The final item is one that I’m really worried I’ll break. A replica of the Marauders map. It completely folds outwards and is really well made and will definitely be treasured. It’s a perfect addition to the box! I love it! The details are amazing and I really don’t want it getting damaged!

That’s it for this month’s box. A great hall as far as I’m aware. Please let me know what you thought of your own boxes! If you don’t already order it then please give it a try. If it’s not for you then you can cancel your subscription at any time or even do as I did and order a one off box to try out. Be quick though as I’ve been told they’re selling out fast! Anyways my recommendation link is: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU please use the link to help me towards a free box. Even if you don’t use the link please don’t hesitate to purchase one as they really are great little treats!img_1761

Thanks so much for reading!
