Period blog Oct 2016 and WIWTM

So once more we approach the spectacular event that is the menstrual cycle. That’s right look away now if you have absolutely no desire to read about it but if you’re that bloke that published the article on women ‘holding their bladders’ you may want to stay tuned and be educated.

img_1812Anyways today is the 26th and I’m just shy of one week overdue and noticed a little bit of spotting so I have popped on my little Harry Potter liner from Tortoise Wing Things. I can’t tell if I’m crampy or not as I have had a vomiting bug and have pulled the muscles in my stomach so could be cramps but could also be that. Either way I haven’t had to take anything I just feel a little delicate so I’m hugging my hot water bottle. Not much to report so far so we’ll see how we go as the day progresses. Okay not much happening so far still slight spotting but not fully started yet, will change into a light pad overnight as a just in case, but should wake up with cramps if it gets really heavy all of a sudden. Think I’ll use my Lily and Leo Deathly Hallows pad, it’s still new and shiny!

So today was more spotting, very slight again but redder then yesterday. I’m expecting things to really get going overnight tonight. Been a little achy but not really cramping aches more body aches. Backs quite sore which I don’t know if its period based or just really long lectures today (at least that’s how they felt). Kept the same pad from last night on as I hadn’t spotted overnight and yes that might make me a bit yucky but meh! I changed over to my second Lily and Leo pad for the evening which is my only Game of Thrones pad so far, that makes me sad. As the evenings going on I’m feeling a little bloated and queasy but still not really cramping. (Sorry my hands in the video, covering a stain that I haven’t treated yet.)img_1820

Woke up this morning with slight spotting once again but still nothing really happening. I had a day of travelling ahead of me so I put on a moderate pad just in case. My TCS Daryl pad because I’m in a Walking Dead kinda mood. No cramping, no more spotting, nothing. This is weird and annoying.IMG_1552

I went without a pad today because there is no longer spotting! I’m really confused now, my body hates me and likes to keep me in suspense. That or its waiting for me to get to work Monday and be crippled. Anyway sorry this is probably an even more boring read, just me playing cat and mouse with my cycle but that’s how it seems to be this month. I actually had to use a disposable liner this afternoon as I haven’t packed any and want to save my others for the main event so I used some of my old liners. Forgot how much disposables smell of chemicals. Still no sign of properly starting yet, just spotting. I will put a liner on overnight though because I’ve had a tiny tummy ache this evening so just one of my wrap around ones I think.

Thank goodness I put that liner on! I woke up around 8 in agony and unable to move without going dizzy. Finally managed to crawl to the bathroom by 9 but I collapsed once I was in there and was vomiting from the pain. So, so far a great official start to this cycle. I managed to take some ibuprofen at 9.30 and kept it down and made it back to bed for a few hours. I couldn’t change from the liner because I couldn’t stand long enough but thankfully it has the PUL layer and it held up really well for a few hours of laying down. I felt pretty week all morning and finally got up around 11ish and put on my Tortoise Wing Things pad which I’ve worn until 3pm been heavy but not had energy to get up properly and change. Thankfully no leaks whatsoever but I wasn’t moving very much today. Just sat in front of the TV feeling sorry for myself. Cramping started up again this evening so I’ve been drugged all day, hoping the painkillers are in my system enough for my shift tomorrow otherwise I’m screwed. I’m on my second pad from the same maker now so I’m going to see how I go with eating some dinner and then an early night I think. I managed my dinner but still on the painkillers and will take them tomorrow for work as well, for now I’m swapping over to my new Lazy Creek Boutique Harry Potter pad and turning in early.

I hate morning shifts and stomach cramps, not the best combo. I have worn both of my Essence of Eve heavy pads through the day and pushed them to the limit. Stomach aches for most of the morning but calmed down until around 3 which was after work so I could curl up for a bit. Worn off this evening so I’m not taking any more pain meds tonight and hoping for the best tomorrow. For now I’m on my stain glass Brigid’s Flame pad for night.

Still steadily heavy today but not too bad. Went without painkillers and got a little crampy this afternoon but not unbearable. I wore my pique Totoro pad for the morning as it’s my comfiest pad at the minute but swapped over to the final Lily and Leo Sailor Moon pad for the afternoon. Still a bit heavy this evening but no cramps so that’s a good thing. Still going to pop on my Walking Dead Leak Freak pad and curl up for the night now.

Had a nice morning to myself so I stayed in the same pad as I’ve not been very heavy today or overnight. Heading up to the rescue centre this afternoon to drop off some dog food so popped on a moderate pad for the afternoon (Harry Potter Crimson Moon). Felt a little queasy today though and no appetite whatsoever. Forced some food down but still feel a bit rubbish, full day tomorrow which I’m not looking forward to but at least I’ve had today off. Had a nice shower and just taken it easy for the most part. Still queasy and crampy with the start of a headache so going to have an early night I think. I’ve popped on my All Fluffed Up silver bells pad that’s really comfy, things seem to be calming down now so hopefully this period won’t last much longer.

I did a load of washing yesterday so I could wear my Daryl TCS pad again today. No cramps and no headaches thankfully and things seem really light so this should be my last day this cycle, I hope. I was busy at work and wore the one pad all day with no problems whatsoever and other then an aching back I actually felt pretty good today. Went to my brother’s place for a pizza and even that didn’t set my stomach off. Today was a good day.

I don’t have any spotting this morning but I’d worn one of my Muff Fluff liners overnight just in case. Nothing at all so this cycle is over. Yay! I’m travelling back to Uni today so everything is being washed once again so I can pack up.

Sorry for the gaps in my uploading these days, with University work starting to pile up and my rubbish health I just haven’t had the chance to write. It may be twice a month updates for a little while but I’ll try and do a bit better then that if I can. As usual my new pads are below and wating to be used. The November ones will be on my December post most likely. We have a Beary Cute Bums and another All Fluffed Up.

Period blog/WIWTM for September 2016

Once again we have reached that time. The time I tell you all to look away if you have no interest in my cranky uterus. Yes, it’s period time.

So once again my cycle is late. I’m pretty thankful this month as I was due to start on the 16th which was also the day I was flying and messing around getting back to University, so it would have been awkward. I did get a bit achy on the day but that was probably just stress aches rather than actual cramps. In fact, I’ve been a bit achy all week since as I’ve been full of a cold, snotty nose, sneezing and everything. I felt pretty sure I was going to start on the Tuesday so I wore my new Harry Potter liner from Tortoise Wing Things, very comfy but wasn’t needed.img_1775

I did start a week and a day late rather than the two weeks it has been for the last few cycles. Yesterday I felt a bit bloated and a tiny bit achy so I put a liner on just in case. My Happy Hippos liner was a bit longer then I’d normally wear but was comfy enough to wear around the flat. img_1770

There was a bit of spotting so I knew it was imminent and so after my shower last night I put one of my little Essence of Eve liners on as a just in caseimg_1777

I was a bit worried that overnight it would start out heavy as it does that sometimes but thankfully it was just spotting. This usually becomes really heavy once I get out of bed and start walking around a bit and so I swapped over to my Huggally Wuggally Harry Potter pad.

img_1767Strangely I haven’t fully started, it’s very strange for me to still be spotting or at least very light on my first day. I had to nip out to the laundry and my HugWugs are a little thick for me to be comfy wearing them out and about, they’re my lazy pads. I swapped to my Sailor Moon Phoenix Rising pad which seems fitting as I’ve been binge watching the series over the last few days. Poor Sailor Venus won’t know what hit her, literally ha! It’s the afternoon now and I’m still very light but I’ve had to take some painkillers for my stomach as I was starting to get quite crampy.

img_1772

I was hoping to avoid too many painkillers this cycle as I was wanting to see if Magnesium soaks work but so far they haven’t. I’ve been soaking in Magnesium once a week for the last few weeks and might increase the amount of times for my next cycle. Thought I’d try a few herbal and vitamin type remedies for pain relief, but haven’t managed to buy them yet. The rest of the day was pretty much just spots of brown rather than red. It’s a little strange, but no cramps after I took the painkillers earlier. I’m now really worried that everything’s going to hit in the night and I have my first day of classes tomorrow. I’ve put my Unicorn hugwug pad on just in case as it’s comfy and a moderate to heavy pad so it should hold up to Niagara Falls if it takes place.img_1766

So there wasn’t a blood bath in my bed this morning which is great. I did wake up at 4 due to a noisy drunk hammering on the main door to the building and checked to make sure I was secure. I was still spotting slightly at that point (odd!) and didn’t need to change so I went back to bed for a few hours. I was feeling a bit queasy and crampy when I woke up and took some painkillers with my breakfast. Also I was bleeding a lot more then I had been so far. It hasn’t been extremely heavy yet and so I put on my Pad Thai crushed velvet pad for going to my first class.

img_1776 I was expecting to get a lot heavier as the morning went on and I did swap over to a heavy Essence of Eve pad after that first lecture as I was feeling a bit uncomfortable. No leaks or anything, just aware that I needed to swap. I left this pad on for the afternoon, so from 11 until around 3pm and I have been fairly heavy this afternoon and still no leaks. I love those pads! A bit crampy though so I haven’t moved much since I returned to my flat and have just cuddled with a hot water bottle. No more painkillers so far! img_1768Anyways, I swapped over to my new All Fluffed Up pad that has a straight front and rounded back. It’s pretty comfy so far and doesn’t have much movement so there’s hope for it to be a go to pad in future. My cramps have settled down for the afternoon but I’ve kept my hot water bottle heated at all times. If I can avoid horrible cramps completely I’ll be really happy.

img_1769 I’m starting to feel a little crampy this evening and I’m really tired so I’ve had a shower, changed into my pink elephant comfort cloth scrundies and Beauty and the Beast Crimson Moon pad and curled up for an early night. No classes until the afternoon so hopefully I’ll feel a bit more human tomorrow.

I did feel a bit more human when I woke up which was great. Also even though I had become a little heavier in the night I still wasn’t overly heavy. This cycle is being very strange! I swapped over to my new pique pad that I received in a trade and it’s my first time using that material and I’m in love. I’m ready to start doing another pad order! I left this moderate pad on from 10am through to 3pm and have been checking to see how it held up and no leaks at all! It also doesn’t feel wet or uncomfortable, I want more!

img_1774 I did have to swap it out at 3pm as I was heading to a class so I put on one of my OBV Tortoise Wing Things pad which is really thin and comfy. I did get a little crampy this afternoon especially once I’d eaten but I haven’t taken anything today and it didn’t last too long.img_1773

I’ve been a bit heavier through the afternoon but the pad held up really well! I swapped over around 10pm to a pair of Huggally Wuggally scrundies and my animal All Fluffed Up pad. An early night again tonight I think.

So today I woke up feeling a bit rubbish and so I didn’t really move from bed for a while. I’d only been spotting slightly so I stayed in the same pad from the night before and my pyjamas for the day. Yes, sounds gross but I honestly barely moved all day. I did have a shower later on and swapped over to my Walking Dead Leak Freak pad and then had an early night. Thankfully there was nothing that needed doing. Illness wasn’t period related as I’ve been ill for a while and it comes and goes, but it doesn’t half knock me down for a day or two.img_1764

Woken up with a bit of a headache this morning but I have classes today so I got straight up and showered. Again only very light spotting overnight, might get a little heavier during the day but to be honest it should just come to a stop this evening, I hope. Anyways I put on Lily and Leo Avengers pad for the day and feel pretty good, other than the headache.

So through the afternoon I steadily started to feel more nauseous and a bit woolly headed. So it looks like I’m going to have to head back to the doctors yet again as I’ve been like this since April and it’s still not sorted! Sick of feeling ill! On the plus side, no cramps and even though I’ve been heavier than I thought I would be, I’m still pretty light. Slowly starting to get back to spotting, should hopefully be over by tomorrow evening if I’m lucky. Will put my Splendid Story pad on overnight and see how I am in the morning.img_1784

I had very slight spotting overnight but it’s wasn’t significant. I changed over to one of my Moongazy cloth pads that I received to try the new design. I’ve had no cramping at all today and no further spotting so I think this cycle is over. Yay!img_1771

I did my first university wash which was a bit awkward as it’s communal laundry facilities, I might do a separate blog at a later date saying how I go about doing this discretely. Everything’s washed for now though and a ready for next month. I used 16 pads over this cycle. I have only received these four pads this month as my new pads. I have got two on the way but I’ll try and include those next month. The large pad is from Lazy Creek Boutique and the other three are from Lily and Leo the same as my Avengers pad.img_1783

My Days Pamper Box

I received my first ever ‘My Days’ pamper box today and it was pretty exciting. Love getting pamper post! These are a subscription box that you can receive every month, or you can send it as a pick me up to a friend going through a hard time. They’re a brilliant idea and only cost around £16. If you’re a cloth pad user or new to cloth pads (like me) then you can add pads, sea sponges, or cups for an extra cost. A really great little box to treat yourself with. The Facebook group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyDaysMonthly/ and the lady in charge is called Tanzi Spencer. She is so lovely and helpful, and if you have any queries she responds super-fast. Honestly some of the best customer services I’ve received so far in my new adventure into the cloth and pamper world. Please check them out!DSCF2419

There was a nice bar of Banana chocolate which I was pretty excited about because I love banana flavoured things and had never tried banana chocolate before. It’s made by a UK company called Kingdom, they’re a ‘Modern British Chocolate’ company. It was really nice chocolate, smooth and milky. I would have loved to have had a stronger banana flavour as it only faintly came through. In fact if I had just been given a piece I probably wouldn’t have noticed it was banana flavoured. Still gorgeous but needs more nana!  They have quite a few different flavours and the website is: http://www.kingdomchocolate.co.uk/ DSCF2420

The Sea Salt crisps were a lot nicer than some of the other Gluten Free products I’ve had in the past, my mum had to cut gluten out of her diet so I’ve tried a lot of these products over the years. The company is called Eat Real and the crisps (chips for you Americans) are Vegan and Vegetarian, as well as gluten free. I admit that for me I would probably want to eat them with a dip of some sort as I find them a little bland just eating them on their own. Not bad in small doses but with a nice salsa dip I could probably eat them all and more. My mum and dad ended up splitting most of the pack between them as they enjoyed them more than I did. I would like to try some of their other flavours though as I’m not usually a sea slat fan. I would probably prefer the chilli and lemon flavour over sea salt. They have a great range available on their website though, really want to try a few of their snack bars, or maybe even the hummus crisps! Take a look: http://www.eatreal.co.uk/ DSCF2412

Next up with have the fruit bar. I have been trying to find health bars that I enjoy recently because I want snacks for my bag that I don’t feel guilty about eating. I’m not in any way weight conscious but as I get a bit older I’m becoming a little health conscious so trying to swap my Snickers bars and Crunchies for something a bit healthier. This bar is lovely! It’s apple and Sultana flapjack which is organic and gluten, milk, peanut, egg, and soya free. The only complaint I have is that they don’t seem to do a banana flavour! What a let-down, I’ll just have to stick to my second favourite of apple. Honestly really nice. The company is called Doves Farm and they were apparently established in 1978, so they know what they’re doing. They’re pretty filling so not a bad idea to have one on a coffee break at work of to keep in your handbag for when you’re out and about, might have to get another box of these. If you have any dietary requirements or just want to order some healthier snacks then take a look at the website: https://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/ DSCF2415

I used the little ball of deodorant after my shower and I like it a lot more than a Lush deodorant bar I bought last year. The Lush one irritated my skin and felt really dry where as this one feels smooth but not oily. I like it so far but haven’t tested out how well it works yet. Feels great, smells great and is the perfect size to put in the suitcase when I travel so I might have to use it as a travel bar to save on spays. Plus I could put it in my handbag to use at work. Yeah I’m a fan so far.

I one again received samples of tea, which I have yet to find a fruit tea I am willing to give up my PG Tips of Yorkshire Tea for. Out of all the teas so far though the wild apple and cinnamon Pukka tea is my favourite, I love the cinnamon tang to it and would probably buy a box of this around Christmas time as it’s pretty festive. Still not a drink I would have often but my mum would probably like them a lot more than I did. As for the second tea which was organic redbush from Clipper, not a fan. A bit too earthy for me I think, but again, my mum loves her fruit teas so it won’t go to waste. Sharing tea bags is great, two for the price of one! Again both of these teas are organic and caffeine free. You can get Pukka teas from their website: http://www.pukkaherbs.com/pukka-products/pukka-teas/    and Clipper teas from theirs: https://www.clipper-teas.com/ DSCF2414

You can also never have too many lip balms. I received an Optima Australian organic tea tree lip balm. It apparently, soothes, protects, and moisturisers your lips. Which is kind of what you’d expect from a lip balm. Really handy for the summer months as it has an SPF 18, so it’ll be going in my holiday bag and my purse for this summer. Not that there’s much point, we’ve probably had our share of sun already and summers just started. Flooding, in June! That’s good old UK for you. This balm does smell quite tea tree like, as you’d expect, but I’m not a fan of the scent. It goes on really easily and feels nice once it’s on, but the smell is a bit off putting for me. I’ll use it for the SPF factor, but it won’t be a balm that I reach for in the shops I don’t think. In case you’re looking for an SPF lip balm, or even a tea tree product balm, cause it’ll be really good for your skin, then the website is: http://www.optimah.com/brands-range.asp?Auto_ID=13 apparently it’s also available in Hollands and Barretts.DSCF2411

My little cloth that came in the box is apparently something to be used instead of things like cotton balls! It’s a little facecloth, cotton ball, thing. Its super soft and I love it! I never even thought about chucking out the cotton balls as well! My new cloth product stash in the making! The supplier is called Claire who runs her own store on Facebook, she hand makes her items which is amazin! Honestly, super soft! Really want to get a few more of these. Her Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/washablewipeshandmadebytuppennytots/?pnref=lhc DSCF2421

My little sachet of hot chocolate unfortunately managed to tear on the way to me, but I managed to scrounge a cup from the half of the powder left in the pack and really enjoyed it. It’s a Lichfields instant hot chocolate and is a Fairtrade product. You do use hot water instead of hot milk so if you’re not a fan of water chocolates then it’s probably not for you. I love them either way and to be honest this is a creamy chocolate, so even though it’s a little watery, you can’t tell as much as with the Cadbury chocolate. A nice little treat for the evening, I’ll stock up for the colder months I think, definitely better than the Cadbury’s one I usually get. I don’t know the website but they are available on amazon. I’m savouring this cup until payday, sweet chocolatey goodness!

Finally, my last little gifts were a set of bath salt crystals, which I won’t be able to use in the bath because I only have a shower unfortunately. I will use them as a foot soak though to try them out, but I can’t really tell you how they are for you leisurely bath takers. They are pretty cute though. There was also a little tea light candle, which I think is a lime scent, it’s fairly strong but will work great to air the house out when the dogs come back wet after their walks!

The box was definitely worth the cost, and it was fun to receive it. I will be buying one in the future, maybe the next one I’ll add some cloth pads to it?! It’s easy to order and as you can all see, you get a lot of stuff! Loved trying new things, even if I didn’t enjoy some of them, I loved trying them out!

Me Chai Designs, Wet bag review

A bit of a later update this week, been working the late shift so I’ve been going straight to bed when I get back. This is just a showing of my new wet bag that I have just received from Me Chai Designs who entered the bag into an auction to raise money for a fellow cloth user in need. I saw the pattern and loved it and thankfully I now own it. It was a bargain really, came from the US and cost me £14.85 which included postage and packaging. You can buy them or similar items on her for around £16. The website for her shop is linked further down the page but her Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MeChaiDesigns/

The maker is called Kassandra Boehmer and she is amazingly friendly and answered any questions I had as soon as I sent her a message. They have now started delivering to the UK, just send her a message when you choose what you want to order and the cost of postage will be calculated for every order. It took 2 weeks to arrive (which is great for UK) and was nicely packaged so it wasn’t damaged in transit. Kassandra owns Me Chai Deigns and uses really high quality fabrics to make her products.

The bag itself is a little small for me to use to collect all of my used cloth pads in but, it’s perfect for when I’m travelling. I’ll be using it as a travel wet bag and a discrete bag for in the bathroom when I’m back at University. She doesn’t just do wet bags either! She has a great range of cloth pads available and updates regularly on her etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/MeChaiDesigns?ref=shop_name_search_sugg

The bag is made from Kona cotton, and is extremely soft and flexible so it’s easy to pop in the drawer when it’s not being used unlike some of the heavily lined wet bags that I’ve seen previously. The sewing is perfect and the bag safely holds two regular, one liner and an overnight pad with space to spare.

DSCF2349There is also a stain removal bar available through this store which I would love to try as I’ve been looking for one for a while now, if you’ve tried them before could you please let me know how you got on and which brands you found the best.

Very impressed with this shop and recommend it to anyone looking for a wet bag for any reason. Very friendly and helpful, cheap but excellent quality and just overall easy to order. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
