Magical Pin Box UK August 2018 Review

Hello to my lovely readers, if you’re still out there. It’s been awhile since I uploaded anything but with university over and a new job on the horizon I might be able to start up some new subscriptions. There still won’t be regular updates, more as and when I purchase.
This one is a bit different, a new one-off box for people that collect Disney pins. I’ve recently started collecting rather then just purchasing the odd pin when I go on holiday. This is a unique box as it is available to people in the UK, from the UK. There are four boxes to choose from that range from £20-48 depending on how many pins and if you want limited edition pins included. The box in the review is the Rookie box which cost £32 and included 5 pins none of which are limited edition.
The box comes well packaged and with the logo on the outside, so you know exactly what you’re about to open. There is a handwritten postcard inside which is a really nice touch and adds to the feel of the box being personalised to you. The pins are wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon and sticker (which I removed and added to my sticker collection to use at a later date) but the individual pins come wrapped in bubble wrap to keep them protected.

When you purchase one of these boxes you can specify what type of collection you prefer, I stated, Mulan, Philharmagic, and a few others that are my smaller collections that I still love. I was absolutely blown away with the pins I received. Two from Mulan which I have been eyeing up for awhile and a new Mickey’s Philharmagic pin which is a bit of an obscure collection and never expected them to be able to include one in my box, very grateful. It also has a moveable element with Donald (my favourite classic character) and will go nicely on a pin board when I get around to buying one.

The other two pins that are included were no less impressive, the Mickey head is one that I will put into a trade for a later date as it doesn’t quite fit with what I collect, but it’s still great quality. The Piglett is adorable as well, I will hold onto it for now as I do like Winnie the Pooh pins and have a small side collection, but he will likely be put into a trade at a later date as well.

So not only have I added three pins to my collection, but I have added to my trading pot as well which when you get into collecting these pins; is just as important as the collection itself at times.

A massive thank you to all the staff at Magical Pin Box UK, the link to their Facebook group is: https://www.facebook.com/magicalpinboxuk/ and they are in the process of getting a website up and running to make purchasing the boxes easier. For now, you order through Facebook, the September boxes have just sold out but keep your eyes open and they will let you know when the next set of boxes become available.
Thanks for reading!

Treat Trove Winter box 2017 review

The ladies of The Treat Trove have really outdone themselves this year. I can no longer afford a monthly box and so I treat myself at Christmas and this box definitely doesn’t disappoint. For those of you that have never heard of The Treat Trove, they are a small business that sells lots of handmade goodies, mainly pertaining to reusable menstrual products such as cloth pads or menstrual cups. However, they also have monthly boxes or comfort boxes. Ones that include these reusables or if you just want to treat yourself to something special. The monthly boxes are £19.95 and are full of products from small businesses that are handmade and unique. I recommend taking a proper look at their stuff and make sure to check often as they update their stock. The website is: http://thetreattrove.co.uk/

This box that I am reviewing cost me around £30. I can’t remember exact pricing as I ordered back in September. The first thing that jumped out at me was the reusable heat/cooling bag. I’ve been meaning to get a few of these so this was perfect timing. It doesn’t smell which is a big bonus for me as strong scents set off my migraines. I’m also pretty certain that this was a substitute item, as I specified in my order that I had certain allergies and mentioned the scents. Thank you, ladies of Treat Trove, for the effort! The wheat bag appears to come from a company called ‘Heads Up’ but it doesn’t have any links on the label. If I find out where you can get there I will add it here.

img_20171215_213931544.jpg

The next thing I picked out was an adorable either crocheted or knitted basket. At first, I thought it was a very small and stiff hat and was a bit lost but once I read the label I was very happy. I’m wanting to start up a bit of a hobby area and this will be perfect to hold all the random little bits and pieces that always go missing. Its small and malleable, love it! If you’re interested in one for yourself then go to: www.facebook.com/ditsypips. I remember this company from a previous box, so I had a nosy at the page myself and it looks as though she offers crochet lessons! I wish I lived nearby to take advantage of those as I am in dire need of an advisor, as my readers will know as I shared my progress a while ago. I haven’t improved. Anyways, give her a look!

The next item is from a supplier I have heard of before JJ Jiraffe. A set of super soft face wipes that are great for taking off make up. I have a set of these already, in a different fabric. I don’t wear makeup so at first, I wasn’t sure what I would use them for, but they have completely replaced cotton balls. I use a facial cleanser, and these are perfect for that. I will save one as a nail varnish remover as I don’t wear the stuff often, but it would be handy for that. Honestly, a great purchase for anyone wanting to reduce their waste. The wipes are exclusive to The Treat Trove so keep an eye on their website (listed at start of this post) but, she also offers other products so go check out her group at: https://www.facebook.com/JJ.Jiraffe/

A glint of yellow caught my eye and I found a lovely citrine bracelet in a bag. I’m trying to get back into accessorising, so this is a great Christmas treat. I’m not a big believer in the healing properties of stones but with my health being so up and down, I’m happy to have all the help I can get. Even though it wasn’t intentional, the properties of this stone are said to help with digestive issues and an unsettled mind. You ladies are perfect! With the number of deadlines, I have at the minute, this thing is not going to leave my wrist. The maker is Wild Feather and she has an etsy store here: https://www.etsystudio.com/shop/WildFeatherCreations/ and it looks as though she sells other items such as embroidered products so go and take a look. I can’t see a Facebook group, so I assume she works solely through this store.

There is also a small glass magnet that admittedly, I won’t have much use for. It is beautifully made and a great quality but it’s a bit small for my house. The place I put magnets is my radiator and if my dogs can easier swallow the magnet, it goes in a draw, so they don’t choke. Just because I won’t be able to display this as it should be doesn’t mean it’s not a lovely addition to the box and I definitely recommend looking at the wares of Rainbow Lux Glass at https://rainbowluxglass.co.uk/ I’ve had a glance over what else is available and the items are stunning. However, the owner is on maternity leave until 2018 so no orders until then. Congratulations to her and good luck!

IMG_20171215_214123397

The final little extra is from one of my favourite small businesses. I have received a few items through the treat trove boxes and have loved them all. Cinnamon Designs have included a little hanging ornament. Mine is shaped like a Christmas pudding and will soon be on my Christmas tree. Always happy to see items from Cinnamon Designs, very well made and always something different. Check her out on etsy at: https://www.etsy.com/uk/people/cinnamondesigns2 and on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/cinnamondesigns2/

img_20171215_2140341391.jpg

That’s everything non-cloth pad related, other than a bar of chocolate. The only edible item in the box which I am very happy about. Last year there were more edibles, but I prefer getting the other items to food products just because I’m so picky. This chocolate bar is by Cocoa Tabby, and is made in Derbyshire. I love a good fruit and nut bar so I can’t wait to break this open, likely when I’m on my own, so nobody can steal it from me. It has a full list of ingredients on the back so very helpful for allergy sufferers. Check them out at https://www.cocoatabby.co.uk/ and it looks like they take part in fairs and markets so keep your eyes peeled for those.

Finally, onto the cloth pads! I hesitated on adding these as I no longer have periods whilst I’m on this pill, but when I come off it I’ll have these to look forward to (and agonizing cramps). The first pad is by Muff Fluff who I have a couple of liners from and really like the quality of them. They are great quality pads and the topper is stunning. The back is a thicker fleece then I would normally wear but will work perfectly fine for the days I want to feel more secure. Sometimes I doubt my thinner pads can hold up to the challenge, they manage but the doubt does win out occasionally. Her Facebook group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1141753795848931/ and she has a great selection of pads. I love the straight corners, I don’t always like the full curve and want something a bit different.

IMG_20171215_214240332

The second pad is by one of the loveliest people ever. Moongazy Cloth is run by Karen who was one of the people that helped me when I first began my journey into the cloth world. She has a fantastic range of toppers and her pads are stunning. I really wish I could go crazy and buy a full stock of her pads but with no periods, I can’t justify it at the minute. One day! As I said her toppers are stunning and this one is no exception, the quality is perfect, and the shape is not fully curved, so again I love it. Very thin pads so I would be happy to wear it when I’m out and about, but not on my heaviest of days, the fluffier the better on those days for me. Please check her out at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/moongazycloth/ there is a waiting list here for custom made pads so you can choose your own length, topper, and absorbency.

This is by far the best box I’ve had from The Treat Trove. I know my review sounds like I’m easy to please but I’ve always been honest with what I’ve said, and this box really has just made me happy. The items were all sweet, practical, and considerate. The pads are from two amazing makers. What’s not to love about this box?! Honestly a great treat that I needed after the past term of University, if only they had a second box that I could order for after exams. Might just go ahead and do that after Christmas.

I hope everyone has a fantastic and safe Christmas and New Year. Even if you don’t celebrate these holidays, I hope you relax and treat yourselves to some lovely goodies. There are some great ones in this review.

Merry Christmas!

PS. Once again, sorry for the terrible photos!

Doki Doki Crate November 2017 Review

Finally, a blog post. My November Doki Doki Crate arrived today so I thought I’d share it with everyone. I haven’t reviewed the October box as I honestly haven’t received it yet. It took 3 weeks to arrive and it went to my home address rather than my uni address, so I won’t be doing a review on that one. For anyone that doesn’t know, the Doki Doki Crate is a monthly subscription box that comes directly from Japan. They do a load of Kawaii items that I love, and I thought I’d buy it for a few months to see what I thought of it. The box costs around £25 a month and is available worldwide with free postage as far as I know. The price changes due to conversion rates, it’s listed in USD so you’ll be able to convert the cost depending on your own currency. The link for the box is: http://www.japancrate.com/dokidoki

IMG_0230

I wasn’t disappointed with this box, I finally received a plushie! It’s adorable. It’s a Tempura cat, and apparently you can get a variety of different cats disguised as tempura. I wish they’d included a picture of the different cats that were available but I’m happy with the one I have.IMG_0232

There is also a face towel which is pretty cute, a very bright yellow, which isn’t my favourite colour, but it suits the design. I’d been debating buying a new face towel, so this is pretty handy and saved me the effort of finding one I like.IMG_0239

The Hello Kitty sandwich mould does seem a bit pointless to me. I’ve always been told not to play with my food so why would I want to mould my sarnies to look like a cat? Even if I did want to make odd shapes from them, this is a very small mould and would make a very small snack. Maybe a fun thing to do at kid’s parties, but would consist of too much food handling for me.IMG_0231

The divided plate is pretty sturdy. I don’t own any plates like this so I’m happy to give it a try. Not a fan of my food all mixing into one so maybe this is the way forward for me. Nice little addition, and even if it’s not used often it will be great for dividing snacks.IMG_0236

I don’t really understand the bread squishy. Apparently, people collect them? It’s okay for a stress ball but it smells gross and I’m not sure I’ll ever use it. Maybe after its aired out a bit it won’t be so bad but, for now its yucky.IMG_0237

The little canvas bag is useful though. Wales charges for every bag used so I’ve been looking at canvas bags to keep in my pockets or bag. I’m planning on making my own next summer, but this will keep me going until I get to my sewing machine. They could have added a bit more detail to it though, it feels a bit bland and cheap to me.IMG_0238

Last but not least is the Hoppe-Chan. You receive one of theses in every box and this one is adorable. It’s supposed to be a turkey, but I just see the little top hat and think of it as a turkey Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon. I love it.IMG_0235

A bit of a short review but all in all I enjoyed this box. A nice mix of useful and useless things. Either way the items will brighten up my room a bit. I definitely recommend looking into these boxes. They’re cute and a bit of fun, especially if you have younger members of the family.IMG_0234

I’m afraid my posts are going to be very infrequent as time goes on, I’m in my final year of an English degree and there is a lot of writing and reading to be done which will be my focus for the next 8 months.

Thanks for reading!

Doki Doki Crate September 2017 Review

IMG_0177After cancelling my Harry Potter subscription box, I have decided it is time to try something new. My first Doki Doki Japan Crate arrived yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. I received and email on the 24th August to say it would arrive in the next 2-4 weeks, but it arrived on the 1st September. Super fast delivery from Japan to the UK, very impressed so far. The box itself cost $30.00 which on the date of purchase equalled £24.36. This box has free delivery all around the world. I was a bit weary of the price at first but it is a box that I see reviews of fairly often and I have been tempted for a while now.

There are a number of different boxes available, I chose this particular box as I liked the theming of it. You can get snack or treat boxes which look great as well, might try one of those in the future. I was drawn to this one because of the blanket that I saw they were including through the facebook page. I loved the different animals that you could potentially receive. I think mine is a brown lamb, or a bear, either way it is very soft and cute. They aren’t as big as I was expecting though so I’m not sure when I’ll use it, might just be a shoulder wrap for me, rather than a blanket. Discovered the truth, its a llama apparently, at least I think that’s what the book was saying.IMG_0178

The second item that I picked out of the box was the clear plastic jug. It’s a decent enough quality and will be handy for keeping fresh water by my bed, but not something I necessarily need. I will use it occasionally but to be honest, it’s a little useless. It’s a jug, that’s it.

The next two items go together and are again fairly useless to me. One is a really pretty little toothbrush. It’s a little small and so it would be fine for children, but not much good for me. Also, I use an electric toothbrush so I didn’t really need a spare. The electric toothbrush also makes the Hello Kitty toothbrush holder a little pointless. I like the designs of them both and might use them on my crafts, a pencil holder and a paint scrubber, I don’t know but I’ll find a use for them.

The next item I really want to try out as soon as I can, it’s a tea infuser. I know, not very exciting but I want to see how it fairs with some leaf teas. I don’t expect much from it as it seems a little flimsy. The rubber of the strawberry doesn’t seem very sturdy, but I love the overall design. IMG_0183

Next up is the most useable item of the box. Two microfiber cloths. They have a cute Kumamon design on them and they are something I was really needing for my trip back to university that is coming up. My previous cleaning cloths were thrown away so now I have one for the bathroom and one for the bedroom. It’s odd that I’m happiest about cleaning cloths but hey, they’re practical.

The final addition to the box is a kittle ornament. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a key ring or a hanging ornament but I know you get one with every box. They’re cute and even though it isn’t Christmas themed, I will probably collect them and hang them on my tree.IMG_0182

That’s it for this month’s box, I’m going to keep my subscription for another month to see how I feel with the next box. This one was fun and cute but a lot of the items were a bit useless. I’ll keep with it as it was a lot of fun to open, but I can’t justify spending almost £25 a month on the box if the items don’t become useful.

I hope you liked my little review, if there is anything else you would like to know please feel free to ask!

Vegankind June 2017 review

Hello, something a bit different for you all today. Another review but this time of The Vegan Kind subscription box. This is a monthly subscription that costs around £10 (depending on the box) and is sent out at the end of the month. I ordered a box for a friend and didn’t cancel the subscription in time before this box was paid for, so it was ordered in a woops moment. I actually quite like the idea, I’m not vegan but do have a few intolerances and so I like to try new products. If you want to try a new box the link is: https://www.thevegankind.com/ and they have snack boxes as well as beauty boxes.

Everything you receive is Vegan friendly and Cruelty Free. Not all of it is food items either. This box came with a candle, not a fan of candles and the scent of this one didn’t wow me but it’ll get used.

The Metcalfe’s skinny popcorn was pretty good, mine were Sweet ‘n Salty and it was a nice treat. Don’t buy popcorn often because it gets stuck in my teeth but it was a great snack for me and was perfect for a movie night. They taste just like normal popcorn so the only difference is that you know they are Vegan friendly. If you’re interested in purchasing then they are available in a variety of places, here is the link to their website for you too look at the different products and flavours available: http://metcalfesskinny.com/our-products/ be careful though as I’m not sure if it is an all Vegan company.

The Goupie chocolates were a little weird, not sure if they tasted good or bad, just strange. I think it was the mix of treacle with dates. The salt kicks in with these flavours and I think that’s what I didn’t enjoy. I think if they were just the Sticky Toffee then I would have enjoyed them more. On the second one I have decided that they taste pretty good but not something I would buy again. Would rather just grab a Crunchie if I’m honest. If you’re interested in giving them a try though, please check out their website: www.goupie.co.uk they have a weird and wonderful selection that I am really hoping to try. Although, the chocolate and lavender one might be something I stay away from. The normal box cost looks to be £4 so it would make a nice little present for someone, an extra treat. The packaging and overall look of the box is nice as well, for a box.

This next item isn’t something completely new to me as I have one most days at work. The Bounce energy balls are really nice but a little expensive. I buy them when they’re on offer in Holland and Barretts. The flavour that has been sent is one I haven’t had before and I have been tempted to try it out. They do a nice range which are sweeter flavours but also a healthier side which are the ones I avoid. This is one of the healthier ones, Almond and Spirulina. I like almonds so that’s a plus, but I have always been put off by the Spirulina side of the bar. After trying it I can’t say it’s taken the place of my favourites, Coconut and Macadamia, or Coconut and Lemon. In fact, it reminds me a bit of the Cacao Mint flavour without the mint taste. The almond taste is overpowered by what I can only assume is the Spirulina which I don’t know if I have tried before. I really recommend these balls, they’re great little energy boosts and additions to your lunch box. If you can’t get them from Holland and Barretts, they also have them at Tesco, or you can purchase from the website: http://uk.bouncefoods.com/ this might be the best place to try them out as you can order a selection of flavours.

IMG_0012

After having so much to eat I have decided to sample the drink. I’ve never heard of the brand before, Sunsoul. It sounds pretty enough and smells amazing; the taste is not great. It tastes a bit like I’m drinking washing up liquid with an aftertaste of elderflower. I’m not a big energy drink fan, I used to quite like Lucozade but I have given up drinking anything fizzy. I found that fizzy drinks gave me headaches. This Sunsoul is sparkling and is supposedly full of natural ingredients, but I’m not a big fan. It also contains caffeine which is something else I have recently tried to cut out. For any of the energy drink addicts out there, you may want to try it out to see for yourselves, it may just be that it’s not for me. The website is: http://sunsouldrinks.com/ and you can purchase 24 cans for £21 which is really good for Vegan products.

Last of the products that can be eaten is the chewing gum. I didn’t have high expectations of the Chewsy All Natural Chewing Gum, but I love spearmint and thought I’d try it out. It’s actually really good, a lovely mint burst when you bite into it and I was waiting for it to be crumblier then chewy but I was wrong. I will say that it doesn’t seem to hold it flavour as long as regular gum but it’s been awhile since I’ve had gum. I usually have Spearmint Smints, but this wasn’t bad. Again, along with the lack or flavour it does seem to become a bit crumbly the more it was chewed. If you need a chewing gum fix then please check out the website here: http://www.chewsygum.co.uk/ they have some odd flavours for gum.

IMG_0013

The final item in the box is a scented candle. They are made by Harpers Candles and as with everything else, they are vegan. The smell is a little strange, quite soapy. I think the scent is called ‘The Great British Summer Kind’ and it is supposed to remind you of freshly mowed grass and a quiet lazy morning. It doesn’t stir up any hay fever but I smell more soap then grass, there is a leafy kind of scent that is hidden within the soap though. I’m not blown away by it but it’s not all that unpleasant, soap is good, it means its clean. It will likely just become a decoration on a shelf somewhere in the house. A bonus is that it is really nice packaging so take a look: http://harperscandles.com/

I wasn’t blown away by this box but like I stated before, I’m not Vegan. If your struggling to find new snack products or suppliers of vegan and animal cruelty free products, then I really do recommend this box. I may not have enjoyed what I was eating other than the popcorn and maybe the chocolate, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t buy it again. I’m not going to subscribe as I have found some snacks that I love (the Bounce balls) and am quite happy to stick with these. Check them out though: https://www.thevegankind.com/ they have alternative boxes if you’re looking for beauty products as well as snacks. They also include a recipe sheet in every box that can give you some great ideas. This one had a pizza bun swirl recipe, it looks nice but I would have to tweak it to cut out the onion and garlic.

Thanks for reading and please subscribe!

World of Wizardry May 2017 Review

I was really excited for my Harry Potter box this month. I’ve been a bit let down in recent months and so I was expecting a good box, finally. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this box. For those of you that don’t know, the World of Wizardry box is a monthly subscription (or one off) box from GeekGear. They cost around £25 a month but I pay every three months. They are posted around the 21st of every month, around payday for me which is great.

IMG_2161

I’ll dive right into it this month and start off with the t-shirt. They are a good quality t-shirt and you receive an exclusive shirt every box. This month was in either a grey or light blue. Mine was blue and a really nice winged key design on it. It’s a bit different in design to the normal shirts and it was nice to have a bit of a change. Usually it’s a block print, I like it.

That’s it for the wearables for this box. Next, we have a metal storage/lunch box. Perfect for me as I’ve been debating buying a lunch box to take my lunch to work, rather than carrying my food and dropping it as I am now. I’m not blown away by the design or the quality. It is my favourite exclusive to this box item so far. It will do its job. Its big enough to fit in a decent sized lunch and a small bottle of water. It will be used, unlike many of the other items I’ve had recently.

Another thing I liked was the chocolate frog moulds. I probably won’t use them with chocolate but I will make some jelly in them this summer. They aren’t terribly detailed but what do you expect from food moulds? They are cute and unique so again, a nice little addition to the box even if they are a bit tacky.

I’m going to stay on the positives of this box and go straight to the next exclusive item. I really nice print of Hogwarts castle. The box always has some form of poster and this is my favourite so far. It’s a very nice quality and it doesn’t look tacky or childish as some of the others have. I like a lot of the posters I receive in these boxes, this one just stood out as being better.

My final positive is the house specific notebook. I really like the design and feel of this book as well as the fact the house insignia is on each page. Not sure what I’ll use it for but as I’m going into my final year of an English degree, I’m sure it will come in handy.

Now on to the negatives, the space fillers. There is a tacky little wristband that displays your house characteristics. It’s a nice thought, but pointless for me. For people that wear these, it is quite a nice quality and the design is unique and well done. Just not something I will wear.

The next item is not a box filler but I wasn’t blown away by it. The exclusive Harry Potter mug. It’s not the first mug from these boxes and is definitely a better quality then the previous one, but I’m not a fan of the design. This is personal preference though! It is a well-made and nice looking mug in good packaging. I just thought it was a bit predictable, I would like more unique items in these boxes.

This is it for this month. In my opinion, the good outweighs the bad for the first time in months. I love this box, it’s just been letting me down recently. I really hope they keep getting better rather than going back to what it was. I’m not jumping for joy over this box but I did breathe a sigh of relief when I saw good quality items that I could actually use. Not just stuff put in a box to meet a quota. Next months hint is a lightening bolt so it could be anything Harry Potter at the minute. IMG_2183

If you’re interested in purchasing one of these boxes then feel free to use this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU I receive a free box for every 5 subscribers so I appreciate anyone that uses this.

Next month is potentially my last box. I am happy with the improvements so far and so I might renew after June’s box but for now, I have one more to come. I am looking into other subscription boxes so feel free to leave any recommendations. Even if it’s because you want to see a review on it before you purchase for yourselves, that’s fine with me. At the minute, I am looking at these boxes: Popinabox, Doki Doki, Japan crate, or Akibento. I really don’t know yet though. I will do a review on whichever box I do purchase though.

Thanks as always for reading!

World of Wizardry April 2017 review

Sorry that this review is a week overdue but I’ve been on holiday. Had 10days in Disneyworld Florida and so I’m now a little jetlagged. Sorry for any errors or ramblings that may occur as a consequence of my lack of decent sleep.

The subscription box that I am reviewing is a monthly box by Geekgear. It is called the World of Wizardry box and costs £24.95 per month on subscription. I pay in quarterly instalments so it is very slightly cheaper than a monthly payment. If you are interested, you can follow this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU  If you purchase through this link I get a point towards a free box so I greatly appreciate it. They have other boxes, one of which is a Harry Potter wearable box, filled with Potter themed clothes. Or a standard GeekGear box, I think next month’s theme is Power Rangers.

There has been one major change that I can see in this box and that is its new booklet. It now has a magazine type guide which shows you the items you will receive, the next month’s box hint, and all others details. It makes the box feel a little more professional but other than that I was once again disappointed with this month’s box contents.

IMG_2082

The first item that I opened was yet another wand. They always feel a bit cheap and to make it worse, this was a GeekGear Exclusive. It was a lot better than last month’s exclusive item in my opinion but, they seem to include a lot of wands which is a bit boring after a while. You could get different shades of wand to dictate its rarity, gold or silver. Mine was a sort of woody colour so I’m not sure if it’s the standard wand or if it was supposed to be gold. It’s pretty but a bit pointless (no pun intended) I have a previous two from this box and this is a better quality then those, but still nothing special. It’s not at a displayable quality like wand replicas are but it will go in a box to be played with if there are ever any kids around.

This wasn’t the only Exclusive item in the box, there were also…shoelaces. Hmmm, now don’t get me wrong! They’re very nice quality, house themed shoelaces. I’m just 99% sure that I have seen them before, or at least, very, very, similar. They will be used and I liked them, just not sure they could be classed as ‘exclusive.’

IMG_2081

This box was really treating us, there is a third ‘exclusive’ item, socks. I’ve not tried them on yet but if they’re anything like the last socks I received in this box then they’ll fit but not be very elasticated once on. It’s a nice little design so I can get away with Potterfying myself at work which I usually can’t. I like them and it is a nice thought.

There a key with wings pin badge, which is also, alright. Nothing to jump up and down over, nice quality, fairly heavy, kind of useless, pin badge. It will probably go on my Uni wall just so I can flick the moveable wings when I’m in procrastination/boredom mode.

As usual we had some posters, there is always one as standard, this month there were three. The A4 print that is a nice depiction of Aragog, and two rolled up posters. The poster depicting the graffiti type image of the houses was double sided and one of my favourite items of the box. It’s very vibrant and if I get bored of one side I can turn it over. This is coming back to University with me in September. The other was a J.K.Rowling quote. To be fair, it’s nice, but I found it a bit cringe worthy. I’m not a big fan of ‘inspirational’ quotes, I think I’m too cynical for them. This one just seemed a bit forced, but it looks okay on paper.

IMG_2091

One of the nicer but non-fancy items in the box, were the Vinyl Stickers. I can see these going in the car once I feel like I can stay awake long enough to drive again. They are subtle and nicely designed. I can’t comment on the quality as I don’t really buy vinyl stickers so I don’t know what is classed as good or bad. I like them, and I will use them, so I’m happy.

Then last but not least we have the t-shirt. It’s a nice colour and I like the printing around the bird. I’m being a bit fussy with this box but, the bird was not representing the majestic eagle (or raven according to some) very well. In fact, it looks a bit too much like a long beaked Pidgeon. It’s a nice t-shirt though and always good quality so it will be worn.

Overall, I’m sure you guessed that I really wasn’t blown away by this month’s box. It’s been too long since I’ve had a ‘wow’ box and I’m really hoping that Geekgear pull their thumb out for next month. I look forward to the boxes but I now have a feeling of doubt when they arrive. I want the old excitement back. Please let me know what you guys think of your boxes, I want to know if it’s just me being really ungrateful or if everyone is less than thrilled with them recently.

Thank you as always for reading, I apologise once again for my rambles, to make up for it I share with you my purchases of Universal Studios Harry Potter world. It’s Crookshanks and Scabbers! Oh, and Peppermint toads! Now going in there was exciting!

World of Wizardry Feb 2017 box review

This month’s box has arrived! Just in time as well because it’s been a miserable day and I needed something to make me feel better. The last few boxes have been a little bit of a let-down if I’m being honest and I was a bit dubious about what would be in this one. Not to worry though! It was fantastic!img_2002

If anyone is interested in purchasing this box, then please follow this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU It’s £24.95 per month and can be delivered worldwide. There are different subscription options depending on how many you want to commit to. I pay every three months which works well for me.

On the contents of this box. I finally got my Hufflepuff scarf! I mentioned in the previous box that came with the gloves and hat that I was disappointed there was no scarf. Now I match! I wear the other two more than I expected and I can’t wait to wear this scarf. With Storm Doris currently attacking the UK, I’ll need it tomorrow. It’s now made from the softest material, but I think it should soften after a good wash. It’s just stiff because its new, I hope. There was a second wearable item, a tie. Not overly impressed with it as it’s just a standard tie in Hufflepuff colours. It doesn’t even have the Hufflepuff insignia on it which I didn’t like, but I suppose it doesn’t in the books either so I shouldn’t be too let down by that. Just not sure I’ll ever need to wear it, unless I do fancy dress…hmmmm that might work actually.

There is an Exclusive Geekgear t-shirt in every box and honestly, this month’s shirt is stunning. Glad it’s in grey rather than yellow as the roses look amazing in contrast. The shirts tend to need washing before I can wear them as they’re a bit stiff, sometimes they smell a bit from whatever dyes they use, but they are very comfortable shirts. I wear them all the time now and they aren’t fading from being washed repeatedly.

This box is definitely for me as it has a really nice, almost pocket sized notebook. I’m an English student and so anything that easily fits into a pocket or handbag is great. Might have been a nice treat to have included a Harry Potter pen as well though. There is also a house themed bookmark that is really sturdy. Might be a bit heavy for my books but it’ll definitely get some use in my final year.

As well as these there is a stunning letter opener in the style of Godric Gryffindor’s sword. I’ll admit that once it’s out of the box and you look at it up close, it’s not quite as impressive. It’s still a nice addition and pretty to look at. I don’t get a lot of letters though so this one might stay at home for the bills that will start piling up soon. This is an Exclusive item to this box though which is pretty cool.

The Limited-Edition movie print is gorgeous. I’ve been a bit let down with the previous boxes choices but this one is perfect. It’s a photograph type image as opposed to the abstract or cartoon versions that we have seen previously. I just need to find room for it on my Harry Potter wall now, it belongs there!

Last but not least there is a colouring book. It’s not the best quality book and it isn’t in the adult style that is becoming fashionable these days. It’s a little bit too childish but I’m sure I’ll still do some colouring in. Can’t let it go to waste after all. Again though, I wish they had included crayons or some kind as I don’t have any here. So, the next box needs crayons and pens dammit!

That’s it for this month. I really enjoyed this box and I hope the standards continue for the future boxes. They can’t please everybody, every month, so I hadn’t given up on these treats. Again, if you are interested in signing up the link is here: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU If 5 people subscribe using this link I get a free box so I appreciate it when you guys use it! I’m not far off now.img_2023

The hint for next month is an image of Hedwig, I’m keeping everything crossed for a Hedwig plushy, I may be 25 but you are never too old for cuddly toys. Never!

Thank you as always for reading, please subscribe so you don’t miss out on updates, even if you’re not a fan of all my topics, I give you permission to miss out on those updates.

Hope you are all well!

The Treat Trove, winter 2016 review

The Treat Trove Winter box review

Its been a while since I last had a Treat Trove box but I couldn’t resist treating myself to the Winter special. It’s a decision I don’t regret in the slightest. I received it when I came home this weekend from University so it was nice to have a treat waiting for me. The box costs £24.95 and they have a variety of items and boxes available on their website: http://thetreattrove.co.uk/ There are treat boxes available that don’t include reusable menstrual pads for those of you that just want a pamper. They also have menstrual cups available if your interested in trying them out. Everything in the box is from the UK and the company help support small local businesses. I believe they deliver worldwide, but if you have any questions then you can ask them in their Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thetreattrove/

img_1875

As for this box, I’ll start with the pads. One was from Red Queen Cloth, I have one of her pads already and its really comfy. This is my first Sherpa pad which is exciting, its not as fluffy as I imagined it to be. I expected it to feel a bit more like a minky pad but its closer to a soft towel, very excited to try it out. If you’re interested in Red Queen Cloth pads then here is the link to her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RedQueenCloth/?fref=ts I really recommend these pads, very good quality.img_1907

The second pad is from Cheecolicious Eco Wear. I haven’t tried any of her pads before but I love the shape and the material is perfect! I was told it was Jersey, I assume it’s a wicking jersey because it feels great, can’t wait to use it. The pad is made to a high standard and is really pretty. Please check out this maker at her website here: https://cheecolicious.com/ or her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cheecolicious/?fref=ts she’s a new maker to me but she has a great range of products that I’m sure you’ll love, including cloth nappies (diapers) and clothing.img_1906

Moving on to the goodies included, I was really happy to see a soap from the amazing Yorkshire Bath Boutique. I first discovered this company through Treat Trove and have since purchased a box of her products, there is a review on my blog here: https://charlieblogweb.wordpress.com/2016/07/16/yorkshire-bath-boutique-review/ I apologise about the lack of images, they were unfortunately deleted. The soap included in this box was a Gingerbread scent, which admittedly is not my favourite, I love gingerbread but the smell is a little sickly for me so this soap will be gifted to a friend. I love her products, she has a massive range of scents available as well as a large range of products. I ordered months ago, and I’m still using the things I purchased over the summer. They last forever! Really good value and great customer service. The link for her Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/yorkshirebathboutique/?fref=ts and her website is: http://www.yorkshirebathboutique.co.uk/store/

img_1898

There was a really pretty headband included which is in a gorgeous red. It is made by Ditsy Pips, who I haven’t head of before but from what I can tell she makes some great quality products. The headband is really comfortable and will be perfect for when I’m trying to keep my hair out of my face when its been straightened. Her Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/ditsypips/?fref=ts and she has her own etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/DitsyPips These products would make some great stocking fillers or even early birthday ideas.img_1896

There were two different chocolate treats, both with their own Christmas themed decoration on top. One a snowman, the other a reindeer. Unfortunately, neither of these have labels to show where they have come from. The reindeer is packaged really neatly with a pretty ribbon and a Merry Christmas tag. If I find where they came from I will add the link here:img_1900

Also a really nice nail polish. I believe they are from a company called, Freckles Polish, all of the shades oare handmade and I’m really impressed with it. The link for the Facebook group is: https://www.facebook.com/frecklespolish/. The boxes all had different shades, mine was a sparkly pink which isn’t my colour usually but its really pretty. I can’t paint my nails as I work in a hospital and its against policy but I used it on my toenails and really like it. Its smooth and easy to use and hasn’t cracked.img_1902

There was a really cute Christmas tree ornament that is shaped like a Christmas pudding. Again, the boxes all had a different shape but all Christmas themed. Its really good quality and will look perfect on the tree when we finally put it up. Again, nothing to show who the supplier is, but they’re really nice so again I’ll try and add the store here:img_1897

The second I opened this box I could smell peppermint and I traced it back to the Butterfly scents wax melt. I have seen a lot of people talking about this brand before and I have had one in the past that I used straight away, I can’t remember which scent I had but it lasted awhile. Its quite a strong scent and I might just use it as a room freshener rather than a wax melt. Please check out the Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/butterflyscentswaxmelts/?fref=ts she makes a massive range of scents and I believe she makes candles as well as the melts. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews and it’s packaged nicely with a little glitter in the melt as well, so again, a good stocking filler or gift idea.img_1899

The final product is another of the Alfie Isaac wish bracelets that I have received in a previous box. I love the idea and the charms are cute but I still say that the string used to tie them is far too stiff and doesn’t feel comfortable. The idea is that you tie it on and make a wish and when the string wears through your wish comes true, unfortunately I find the string too slippery and it comes loose, or too stiff and its uncomfortable. Would prefer just a normal thread. The packaging is gorgeous though and they are really cute ideas so if its something that appeals to you then the link is: www.etsy.com/shop/alfieisaacimg_1905

Thank you for reading! Still more reviews to come before Christmas so keep a look out!

Winifred’s Homemade Fudge review

Today I am reviewing the wonderful Winifred’s Homemade Fudge. I ordered a sample box in order to try a range of her products as they all sounded amazing and I couldn’t decide on what I wanted. The box was on offer and I believe it is usually £7.50 whereas I bought mine for £5 and the postage was £4.40 so it wasn’t unreasonably expensive.

The box arrived a week after it was ordered and was packaged really nicely. Even with my postman throwing the box around, there were no squished bars. I’ll admit that there is more fudge then I was expecting as well so definitely worth the price! Also you get different flavours every month! You get to try some unique flavours like Apple Crumble fudge, which sounded a bit strange but was amazing.

The first one I had to open straight away was the Bounty milk chocolate bar. It was one of the smaller ones in the box but it was perfect. I love coconut but I don’t eat bounty’s very often so this was a lovely little treat. There wasn’t too much coconut as to overwhelm the chocolate but it was just enough that you could taste it. Was so yummy!

Next was the Apple Crumble that I mentioned before. It really was amazing! It actually melts in the mouth (sorry for cliché!) and you can really taste the apple. Enjoyed it more than I expected I would. I did expect a bit more of a crumble texture, maybe even a slight crunch but I was happy it wasn’t there as I prefer smooth fudge. If you don’t purchase a selection of flavours, then I really recommend this one!

My next try was of the Kinder surprise, kinder Bueno and kinder and Nutella mix. It was stunning, so creamy and scrummy. I have to admit that I would have preferred it without the Bueno as I’m not a fan of those and it’s broke up the creamy texture of the bar. I still loved it and wish I had a heck of a lot more of it. I actually ate the entire thing by myself, no sharing of this one. Far too good to let the parents have any.

The next sample was of something I have never tried before, at least as far as I can remember. Pistachio. I know, I know, I’m an uncultured cur, but I honestly don’t remember having Pistachio before. I was a bit wary at first because my childish brain just told me that it ‘smelt funny’ my dad chimed in with ‘it smells like playdough’ not a great start. If it helps it probably smells like Pistachio but we’re all cur’s in this house. As for the taste, I’m apparently not a Pistachio fan, it was a little too sweet for me and I didn’t enjoy it. Maybe if I accustomed myself to Pistachios I’ll enjoy it more in future, for now I’ll pass on this one.

I was pretty curious about the next sample as it was tropical flavoured with white chocolate. It smelt amazing! Really fresh and summery, and I couldn’t wait to try it once it was opened. I’ll admit that I wouldn’t be able to eat much of it at once as it is a very sweet combination but it tastes fantastic. The tropical flavouring really comes through followed by a creamy white chocolate which isn’t as strong. Really nice to eat but I’d probably order it for a larger group, maybe small bite size pieces for a party? Honestly delicious!

The final one was the dubious Oreo cookie and white chocolate. If you’ve read my previous blogs, then you’ll know that I’m not an Oreo girl and so this one was left for last. It actually isn’t bad, wouldn’t be my first choice if I was shopping for fudge but certainly not the last. You can really taste the white chocolate in the fudge itself and with the chunks of Oreo biscuit/cookie inside it kind of pulls down the sweetness if that makes sense. It stops it from being overly sweet and gives it a bit of a crunch. I preferred the mix of crunch and fudge with this one whereas I didn’t for the kinder bar. If you enjoy Oreo then you’ll hopefully love this.img_1719

Anyways my lovelies this brings me to the end of this review. I have loved trying out new fudges and letting you all know how I got on with them. If you have any questions, then please feel free to ask. As for all of the lovely people out there that now want to go and purchase mass amounts of fudge here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/Calorificfudge/?fref=ts. There are boxes available or there are market nights where you can purchase flavours that have been made that week. Please join her group to see what wonderful creations she makes. I’m hoping to be able to try more but with the move back to University happening tomorrow I might have to wait a bit longer to be able to treat myself.

If there is anything you would like to see me review or hear my opinion of then let me know. Even if you just want to know how I went about moving back to University.

Thanks for reading!
