Bullet Journalling, what have I done?!

My new foray into bullet journaling has kept me pretty busy for the last week. As you have all probably realised, I’m atrocious at updating on time. This is odd for me as I am a massive stickler for being on time. I think the last time I was late for anything was when I was still taking buses and mine didn’t turn up. So, I thought that maybe it isn’t my time keeping that is the problem but my organisation skills. Hence the journal. I am not artistically talented and so there will be no out of this world images or mind-blowing sketches. I love to be creative and draw but I know I’m not good at putting it on paper. I use my words to bring things to life, not my crayons. This is still really fun as its just for me. I still wish I could draw though.

All of the pages have been inspired, copied or are imitations of other people’s journals. I have browsed many a blog, google, and pinterest for references and ideas. For anyone that is also just starting out, these are great places to help you get started.

IMG_0075

My journal starts with a large calendar that shows the year to come. This starts from August as I wanted to begin from the beginning of a month and that is when I will start getting ready for the final University year. I overused the colours but I enjoyed drawing it out. It’s odd how soothing measuring out sections can be. I have highlighted any bank holidays, including ones unique to where I live. I have also shown any days to remember, such as Mother’s/Father’s Day. This seemed like the logical place to start before I realised I had left off space to identify what day matches the date. This isn’t a big issue as I list it later on, but still not the best thought out page.

IMG_0076

The second page looked like a great idea when I saw it online. I like how it looks but (for me) it doesn’t make the reading list look any more interesting. This page is split into three sections, my two modules with reading lists, and what I want to read. I have done it this way as I must work from the top of the list before I can read from the bottom. The books just aren’t what I am interested in. There are some good reads mixed in with the bad, but it is still a bit of a chore. I would love to have found a layout that makes this seem a bit less daunting. This one is as close as I could get. This might not be a relevant addition to every journal, and could in fact be replaced with films or series. I have seen some great images of people tracking which episode they are up to in the series’ they are watching. I just don’t have many to track at the minute as a lot of mine are on a break.

IMG_0077

The third page so far is a page waiting to be filled. It has a calendar ready for when I have my final deadlines for the year. I won’t know these until I’m back in September but I wanted this page as close to the front of the book as possible. I started to try and do the title in a font similar to that of the Walking dead. I was going for the ‘Walking Deadlines’ pun, it failed, miserably. I am happy with the rest of the page, even the dodgy looking plant doodle that I have attempted. The page is fine, it’s what needs to go on it that I’m dreading.

IMG_0074

Page four and five are a second planner. A full year with space to add a few notes. This is so I can add a reminder for things that I want to put in the journal, but I’m not at that moment yet. If that made sense. I will do week to view pages later on that will allow me to keep on top of work over a months’ time. I don’t want to be overwhelmed and so I am going to keep it down to a month only. I have to admit that even though this is a simple layout, this is my favourite so far.

IMG_0078

The last thing I will include in this blog is the tracker page. This is another of the reasons I wanted to keep one of these journals; to track certain activities I do every day. This for me is simple, pills, teeth, health, and reading. I want to try and keep an eye on how often I am doing these things and this will allow me to do that. This page is for July even though I did’t want to start until August, as I wanted to start the tracking as son as I could. I’m not happy with how it looks and so will lay it out differently for August, but it will work.

On a side note, a lot of people have told me about washi or wasabi tape, as you can see I have bought a roll but I personally think it looks a mess. Could somebody explain why they like it so much and how they use it? I know it’s often a page boundary or to separate things, but I think it sticks out a bit too much. I might have to try a few different types to see if I get a feel for them.

Anyways folks, here is my first attempt at bullet journaling. I will try and keep you up to date with it as I go along but I’ll see how I get on. This may replace my normal period blog as I have been put on a new pill that stops my cycle. Let me know what kind of posts you are wanting, even if it’s more on reusables, journaling, crafts, or more.

World of Wizardry May 2017 Review

I was really excited for my Harry Potter box this month. I’ve been a bit let down in recent months and so I was expecting a good box, finally. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this box. For those of you that don’t know, the World of Wizardry box is a monthly subscription (or one off) box from GeekGear. They cost around £25 a month but I pay every three months. They are posted around the 21st of every month, around payday for me which is great.

IMG_2161

I’ll dive right into it this month and start off with the t-shirt. They are a good quality t-shirt and you receive an exclusive shirt every box. This month was in either a grey or light blue. Mine was blue and a really nice winged key design on it. It’s a bit different in design to the normal shirts and it was nice to have a bit of a change. Usually it’s a block print, I like it.

That’s it for the wearables for this box. Next, we have a metal storage/lunch box. Perfect for me as I’ve been debating buying a lunch box to take my lunch to work, rather than carrying my food and dropping it as I am now. I’m not blown away by the design or the quality. It is my favourite exclusive to this box item so far. It will do its job. Its big enough to fit in a decent sized lunch and a small bottle of water. It will be used, unlike many of the other items I’ve had recently.

Another thing I liked was the chocolate frog moulds. I probably won’t use them with chocolate but I will make some jelly in them this summer. They aren’t terribly detailed but what do you expect from food moulds? They are cute and unique so again, a nice little addition to the box even if they are a bit tacky.

I’m going to stay on the positives of this box and go straight to the next exclusive item. I really nice print of Hogwarts castle. The box always has some form of poster and this is my favourite so far. It’s a very nice quality and it doesn’t look tacky or childish as some of the others have. I like a lot of the posters I receive in these boxes, this one just stood out as being better.

My final positive is the house specific notebook. I really like the design and feel of this book as well as the fact the house insignia is on each page. Not sure what I’ll use it for but as I’m going into my final year of an English degree, I’m sure it will come in handy.

Now on to the negatives, the space fillers. There is a tacky little wristband that displays your house characteristics. It’s a nice thought, but pointless for me. For people that wear these, it is quite a nice quality and the design is unique and well done. Just not something I will wear.

The next item is not a box filler but I wasn’t blown away by it. The exclusive Harry Potter mug. It’s not the first mug from these boxes and is definitely a better quality then the previous one, but I’m not a fan of the design. This is personal preference though! It is a well-made and nice looking mug in good packaging. I just thought it was a bit predictable, I would like more unique items in these boxes.

This is it for this month. In my opinion, the good outweighs the bad for the first time in months. I love this box, it’s just been letting me down recently. I really hope they keep getting better rather than going back to what it was. I’m not jumping for joy over this box but I did breathe a sigh of relief when I saw good quality items that I could actually use. Not just stuff put in a box to meet a quota. Next months hint is a lightening bolt so it could be anything Harry Potter at the minute. IMG_2183

If you’re interested in purchasing one of these boxes then feel free to use this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU I receive a free box for every 5 subscribers so I appreciate anyone that uses this.

Next month is potentially my last box. I am happy with the improvements so far and so I might renew after June’s box but for now, I have one more to come. I am looking into other subscription boxes so feel free to leave any recommendations. Even if it’s because you want to see a review on it before you purchase for yourselves, that’s fine with me. At the minute, I am looking at these boxes: Popinabox, Doki Doki, Japan crate, or Akibento. I really don’t know yet though. I will do a review on whichever box I do purchase though.

Thanks as always for reading!

World of Wizardry Feb 2017 box review

This month’s box has arrived! Just in time as well because it’s been a miserable day and I needed something to make me feel better. The last few boxes have been a little bit of a let-down if I’m being honest and I was a bit dubious about what would be in this one. Not to worry though! It was fantastic!img_2002

If anyone is interested in purchasing this box, then please follow this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU It’s £24.95 per month and can be delivered worldwide. There are different subscription options depending on how many you want to commit to. I pay every three months which works well for me.

On the contents of this box. I finally got my Hufflepuff scarf! I mentioned in the previous box that came with the gloves and hat that I was disappointed there was no scarf. Now I match! I wear the other two more than I expected and I can’t wait to wear this scarf. With Storm Doris currently attacking the UK, I’ll need it tomorrow. It’s now made from the softest material, but I think it should soften after a good wash. It’s just stiff because its new, I hope. There was a second wearable item, a tie. Not overly impressed with it as it’s just a standard tie in Hufflepuff colours. It doesn’t even have the Hufflepuff insignia on it which I didn’t like, but I suppose it doesn’t in the books either so I shouldn’t be too let down by that. Just not sure I’ll ever need to wear it, unless I do fancy dress…hmmmm that might work actually.

There is an Exclusive Geekgear t-shirt in every box and honestly, this month’s shirt is stunning. Glad it’s in grey rather than yellow as the roses look amazing in contrast. The shirts tend to need washing before I can wear them as they’re a bit stiff, sometimes they smell a bit from whatever dyes they use, but they are very comfortable shirts. I wear them all the time now and they aren’t fading from being washed repeatedly.

This box is definitely for me as it has a really nice, almost pocket sized notebook. I’m an English student and so anything that easily fits into a pocket or handbag is great. Might have been a nice treat to have included a Harry Potter pen as well though. There is also a house themed bookmark that is really sturdy. Might be a bit heavy for my books but it’ll definitely get some use in my final year.

As well as these there is a stunning letter opener in the style of Godric Gryffindor’s sword. I’ll admit that once it’s out of the box and you look at it up close, it’s not quite as impressive. It’s still a nice addition and pretty to look at. I don’t get a lot of letters though so this one might stay at home for the bills that will start piling up soon. This is an Exclusive item to this box though which is pretty cool.

The Limited-Edition movie print is gorgeous. I’ve been a bit let down with the previous boxes choices but this one is perfect. It’s a photograph type image as opposed to the abstract or cartoon versions that we have seen previously. I just need to find room for it on my Harry Potter wall now, it belongs there!

Last but not least there is a colouring book. It’s not the best quality book and it isn’t in the adult style that is becoming fashionable these days. It’s a little bit too childish but I’m sure I’ll still do some colouring in. Can’t let it go to waste after all. Again though, I wish they had included crayons or some kind as I don’t have any here. So, the next box needs crayons and pens dammit!

That’s it for this month. I really enjoyed this box and I hope the standards continue for the future boxes. They can’t please everybody, every month, so I hadn’t given up on these treats. Again, if you are interested in signing up the link is here: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU If 5 people subscribe using this link I get a free box so I appreciate it when you guys use it! I’m not far off now.img_2023

The hint for next month is an image of Hedwig, I’m keeping everything crossed for a Hedwig plushy, I may be 25 but you are never too old for cuddly toys. Never!

Thank you as always for reading, please subscribe so you don’t miss out on updates, even if you’re not a fan of all my topics, I give you permission to miss out on those updates.

Hope you are all well!

The Treat Trove July 2016 box review

This month’s treat trove box has arrived! I received it Saturday and I think this is one of my favourite boxes so far. It is a little later than usual box we were notified on the Facebook page about the delay as there was chocolate in the box and we actually had a few days of hot weather, hence the later delivery. IMG_1418 (1)

The chocolate lolly thankfully arrived completely intact although the little squirrel had come a bit loose from the lolly and so I had two separate chocolate treats instead of one. I of course was devastated over this, or not. The chocolate was lovely really milky, maybe a little too sweet for me but I’m odd and don’t even like Cadbury’s chocolate because I find it too sweet. Prefer Swiss chocolate from M&S. I did really enjoy it though, was just what I needed after my shift today and there was just enough that I didn’t feel like I’d had too much sugar, but enough sugar to calm the sugar cravings. These are made by The Lollipop Stop but I can’t find the link to their store, if I do I’ll add it in.

There is something a little different in this box which I have fallen in love with! It’s a Cinnamon Designs phone charm. It’s so pretty and the perfect size and colour and shape and….yeah I really like it. It’s a bit unique and I’ve just ordered a custom made purse from Phoenix Rising Reusables (https://www.facebook.com/groups/PhoenixRisingReusables/) and I think I’m going to save it so I can attach it to the purse when it arrives. I’ll look after the purse more than my phone which gets a bit battered The colours, I’m in love with the colours, make me all calm just by looking at them, okay, sorry I’m done. I’d never heard of the store but I’ve done a bit of research since this box came and here is the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/cinnamondesigns2/?fref=ts. They’re also local to me when I’m back at University as they’re based in Cardiff so I feel like I’m supporting the locals. They have a massive range of products so please check them out even if it’s just on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CinnamonDesigns2 they do engraved plaques, notebooks, charms, ornaments, all sorts. I actually wish they had a little store that I could take a walk around as this is the kind of thing I love!

As usually we also got a few smellies this month, I mean the melts and pamper products, not me! The first product is a little wax melt tart by Lola Rose. It’s a Lovely Dove scent that smells like the Dove soup you can get, all clean and fresh. I know I usually am not much of a fan of wax melts and candles but its scents like this that I love. I would buy this to put one in every sock and pant draw that I could as well as for every room. Honestly can’t wait to use it. Might even save it for the colder months where you can’t have the garden door open as often, that way the room will smell fresh again.  I struggled a little to find the store for this one but in the end google came through. Would definitely recommend to the supplier that they include those details on the little label. The Facebook group is: https://www.facebook.com/scentsbylolarose and there are loads of different things to try and they’re pretty cheap as well so go check her out…now!

The second smelly is actually a little unique as it’s a Lemon Sherbet Mini Bubble crumble slice. Again, a scent I love! It’s by Marshmallow Blends: http://www.marshmallowblends.co.uk/ who also have a Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/Marshmallowblends/ all handmade by the looks of things and if the rest of the things smell half as amazing as this slice does then I really wish they had a store to shop in as it would be worth the almost instant headache I would get. I haven’t tried it out yet and don’t have a bath so will be using it as a foot soak or a hand soak as the lovely Suzanne Barbato (one of the lovely ladies of Treat Trove) recommended. A good pamper day tomorrow I think.

Another nice little touch in this box was a make a wish bracelet. I again love the colours and the thought that goes behind it, so pretty. It’s a bracelet by Alfie Isaac who has an Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/AlfieIsaac?ref=search_shop_redirect. They’re currently closed until the 6th when apparently they’re releasing some new designs so I’ll be taking a look later this week. From what I can see they do a variety of bracelets with different charms and inspirational quotes for different occasions. They come with an envelope so you could post it to someone instead of the boring birthday or celebration cards that you usually get. I’m not wearing mine at the minute as I can’t wear things on my wrist at work (Health care Assistant) so I’m saving it for when I’m back to University. My only negative is the string used is a little stiff and not the most comfortable, I understand that it’s supposed to wear through so that ‘your wish comes true’ but maybe a thin cotton thread would be a little better? Still a lovely addition to this box and I’ll be keeping the card in my work diary.

The pads in this box are really pretty and I’m really happy with the quality of them all. The first one is a Ngozi Sews pad which is a supplier I’ve been wanting to try out but keep missing out on when they have a stocking. The lady that makes these pads is called Nina Goodall and she’s super lovely. The pad is a 9” Regular pad and its padded enough that you can tell it’s there but not so much that you’re conscious that others know it’s there. I like to be able to feel my pads otherwise I feel like I’m going to soak through them so I’m looking forward to testing this one out. I’d recommend checking out the Facebook group as they have a waiting list for custom orders and often do Market nights along with Red Queen Cloth (who made the pad I received in my first box and love it!) the page is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/clothpadmad/IMG_1421

I’d join the group as soon as you can because the next Market night is 5th August at 8pm (BST) and my lovely friend Karen Lucas is a guest seller. She makes the Moongazy Cloth pads (https://www.facebook.com/groups/moongazycloth/) and I have two pads so far that are fantastic quality so definitely check her out and be there for the Market! Can’t wait! She isn’t selling pads on this occasion, just the pad pods, but still great quality and if you want to purchase i’d recommend messaging her page as she has a great range of prints.

The next two pads are both from Muff Fluff which is a brilliant name! I have heard of this maker before but hadn’t had the chance to try out these pads before so it’s a great edition and should be just in time for this cycle. They’re both a unique diamond sort of shape and are actually the perfect size for liners/light pads. I think they’re 7 and 8” respectively but I’m not 100%, they’re lovely and thing though, which I do like in liners as I don’t have to feel secure, just need to know that if I get a surprise Aunty Flo visit then my trousers won’t be ruined. These should do the job perfectly. I’m in love with the little turtle print, might go to the top of my liner pile! There Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/Muff-Fluff-CSP-741416342625723/ and the prices look pretty good to me! I would recommend they put the Facebook page on the label though as it would make it easier to find them, but I’m happy to have the pads to myself for now!

My only downside to this box is the fact that for the second box in a row we’ve had a cloth pad design that is also available on the Treat Trove website. Whilst I am very happy with the pad, I wish I could have tried a different maker rather than something in stock. I buy the pads from this site when I can and I very nearly had double the pads, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing especially when the pads are great. It’s just a niggle and the hope of trying a wider range of suppliers. Not a disappointment at all! The only reason I point it out is that in my previous box I’d ordered a Chubby Joe pad and also received one in the box that month so it took away some of the excitement as I was already trying that supplier out though the same place. This entire little paragraph doesn’t make much sense but I know what I mean! That and I like to add an improvement tip to a review and this was the only thing I could think of for this box!

So, a brilliant box with loads of new stores for you lot to check out, I think this box is my favourite so far and I’m really wishing I could buy the August box but I’m afraid the limited funding at the minute means that for August’s box you’ll all just have to order your own to try them for yourselves! The site is: http://thetreattrove.co.uk/ and you could even order your September boxes whilst you’re at it! Any questions then come join us over on the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thetreattrove/ they’re all super lovely people and always happy to help.

Thanks for reading! Now go spend your money and treat yourselves!
