My Days August 2016 Pamper box

IMG_1632This box contained a few different goodies that I had never tried (or heard of) before. The tangy lime infused raisins were really yummy. They are the Nãkd brand snacks and I think they’re part of the Naked bar range which I love! I’m a big fan of my citrus flavours and really enjoyed the small bag. They did leave my tongue a bit tingly as they are a little sour, or ‘Tangy’ as the name implies. I loved them so much that I went and bought the other two flavours from Holland and Barretts, Coco-cola, and cherry. They’re only 49p and perfect for a light snack.

I didn’t try the chocolate orange bar as I really don’t like orange flavoured chocolate. My dad loves it though and so I gave it to him, he seemed to enjoy it as it went really fast. I have tried the Divine chocolate range before and I love their products and really recommend you guys buy them as they do a great range of flavours. Just the orange flavour that isn’t really for me.

The chickpea crisps were great fun to try, I’m sorry to you lot that enjoy them but they smelt gross. My mum ate a few and really liked them but then realised she shouldn’t eat them because of two ingredients that don’t agree with her (or me). They were just weird but then again I’m not a big crisp eater, except for quavers, love me some quavers. Another product that went to daddy’s belly.

There was another of the Lichfields hot chocolate sachets, which is being saved for a bad day as the last sachet was. Might even save it for my first day back to student accommodation, a treat qhilst my cupboards are bare.

Also two new teas to try out. The happy Monday one is the same as one I received in a previous box and I’m going to save it for when I have a winter cold as it’s citrusy and will be perfect for when I’m feeling a bit off. The second is also a citrus type tea, Lemon Valerian. It sounds very Game of Thrones like and I can’t wait to try it out. I will save it for when the weather cools down a bit though as I’m not in much of a tea mood when it’s so hot outside. Who’d have thought the sun would even reach the Isle of Man for once?!

The mango chocolate has got to be the oddest thing I’ve heard off in chocolate so far. I was extremely dubious at first and was all for letting someone else be the guinea pig and see how they reacted after sampling it, but I didn’t. I broke off a single piece and gave it a quick sniff (as you do) before placing it in my mouth. Yeah this was oddly enough, not bad. I couldn’t eat all of a bar too myself, at least not in one sitting, but it was quite enjoyable, just a bit sweet. I imagine that’s the lime flavour, maybe the mango. Had a bit of a kick in the after taste as well which must have been the chilli hitting. It was great to try it because I would have never bought it for myself. I like it!

That’s it for the snacks and even though I didn’t get on with some of them it was great giving them all a go. There was one item in this box that I really didn’t get on well with and that was the Ancient Wisdom massage and bath oil. It was a bit too strong scented for me, really not a fan. Did add a few drops of it into Baby Oil to use on my mum’s elbow (She’s got a broken elbow that she massages to help it loosen up) but it gave her a small rash so I’m afraid I won’t be using more of this. Only downside so far.

Next major item from this box was a 100% Natural toothpaste that was Citrus and Aloe Vera flavour. I’ve never used a natural toothpaste before and was very intrigued as it smelt brilliant and sounded like a great idea. I did try it out and once I got over the fact that it wasn’t minty I actually really liked it. It tastes quite lemony and not herbal like I was expecting it too. I don’t think it’s something I would purchase on a regular basis as I’m really conscious about my teeth and have my routine set for cleaning them but I wouldn’t be off put to use this until it runs out, it’s going on my shelf. In fact, I might use it as my night toothpaste that way I’m minty fresh for work and citrusy for bed. It does get a thumbs up for those of you wanting to swap over.

One of my favourite items this month was the little lolly face cloths. When I first saw it I thought it was some kind of Marshmallow lolly but it’s two face cloth towels wrapped up to form the cute lolly in the photo. The towels are very soft and the perfect size, they’re stuck together in one corner which I think will pull apart but I’ve left it as it is for now as it works for me. These little beauties are coming with me to uni next month. I needed some and now I have some. Very happy and perfect little design. Great idea for a little stocking filler present for you oddballs that have started Christmas shopping already!

In every box you receive a tea light candle and a reusable cloth. The blue of this cloth is one of my favourite colours so I was very happy with it. Still not as soft as the first one I received but still really nice. The tea light is very orange and isn’t overpowering at all so it’s perfect. The last one has just been used so this arrived in time to replace it and it smells really refreshing and subtle so I’m happy.

Some of you might ask why I thought this was such a fantastic box when I disliked a lot of the things I tried. The answer to that is that I loved to try all the goodies that came in this box. Yes, the crisp things were very yucky but it was something I would never have tried before and I love the fact that I got to try them out.

I would love it if the boxes contained a bit more information on the products, maybe a little guide to show the retail value of what is being received as it would help me know whether or not I would have purchased the items for myself. Also it would really help me be more aware of how good a value the Pamper box is. The Facebook group is a great help for finding out more information but it would be great to already have it in the box itself. This box costs £16 with a £3 postage charge and was the cheaper option for these boxes, there are other available, Including boxes with scrundies and cloth pads. Please go and check them out at the My Days Pamper box Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyDaysMonthly/ and enjoy. This will be my last box until Christmas now unfortunately as I’m now going to be a poor student and can no longer afford to treat myself. So please go and treat yourselves in my place! Share with me your gorgeous purchases so I can live vicariously through all of my readers!

Thank you all for reading!

Not a hypochodriac…unless that needs a GP visit?

I’ve decided to do a bit of a health post. Not a rambling about my health or anything like that, unless you want me to. More a feedback on things I have been trying recently and letting you guys know how I got on, post.

First things first I had a lot of different illnesses throughout April, one cold or virus after another because I was a bit stressed over deadlines and other things happening at the time. So when I arrived home from University I decided I was sick of being ill and needed to boost my immune system. Give it a helping hand as it were. I’m pretty sure the staff at Holland and Barrett’s saw me coming as I left with 4 different types of vitamins and minerals. I bought coconut oil capsules because I kept getting dry skin and had heard they were good for skin and hair so why not. I bought Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium capsules because I’d heard Magnesium was good for menstrual cramps and headaches and I figured extra calcium wouldn’t hurt because I’ve broken a lot of bones in the past and they can ache sometimes. I bought the Cod Liver Oil capsules which my Grandma always used to shake her head at and tell me to take it on a teaspoon like she had to back in the day, no thank you! That’s gross. Finally I bought the ‘Alive’ vitamins that promote ‘Women’s Energy’ figured, I’m a women and I need energy so I’ll try them out. As you can imagine I spent a little bit of money but it was the penny deal so not as much as it should have been.

I’ll start with the coconut oil capsules, I’ve been taking them for a bit over a month now and haven’t noticed any difference in the health of my skin or my hair. I personally don’t recommend them at all. I do however recommend coconut oil in its natural form, i.e. a jar of coconut oil. I bought some from my local health food shop ‘Robinson’s’ for £1.60 which was a lot cheaper than the £7-8 or so that Holland and Barrett’s wanted for it. I’ve used it all over my body and my skin feels amazing, my hands are still a little dry so I’m thinking of trying it as a soak rather than just applying it to them directly and see if that works. I used it as a replacement for my conditioner as it’s supposed to help with dandruff, I have very think hair so I always have problems but it does work as far as I’ve noticed. I don’t think I’ll continue to use it though as it makes my hair feel really greasy and clumpy, also the overpowering smell of coconut made me feel a bit queasy. So yeah, great for the skin but maybe just a once a month or so on the hair?

IMG_1169The calcium, zinc and magnesium capsules haven’t really been tested as I haven’t had a proper menstrual cycle since I started taking them. I came off on my pill which always messes everything up anyways so these will have to be tested over a few months. Headache wise, they suck. I keep having a lot of mild headaches that are making me feel queasy. Thankfully not migraine level yet, but so far not noticed any improvements. Might try feverfew capsules in the future, they’re supposed to be good for headache prevention. On the plus side, my pee is florescent! It’s brilliant! Yes I’ a child that easily amused but weird coloured urine. Seriously for the first few hours after taking them, my pee practically glows in the dark. I may have to continue taking these forever just for this reason!

The ‘Alive’ capsules have just blended in with all the rest if I’m honest. I won’t buy anymore when they’re finished as I bought them more as a supplement for things I’d been lacking in my University diet. Since I’m back home now I should be getting the nutrients I need through actual food and not a capsule. These combined with the olive oil do seemed to have worked in reducing the amount of colds and bugs I’ve picked up, but that could just be the change in routine and stress levels. If, once I stop taking them I start getting ill again, I’ll get some more. If that does happen though, I’ll be looking at my diet to see what I can change there.

Okidokie, so that’s my health/vitamin update. My recommendations from this, Olive oil capsules, coconut oil for the skin, and magnesium for glow in the dark (not really) pee.

If I change anything, I’ll make sure to let you know!

My Days Pamper Box

I received my first ever ‘My Days’ pamper box today and it was pretty exciting. Love getting pamper post! These are a subscription box that you can receive every month, or you can send it as a pick me up to a friend going through a hard time. They’re a brilliant idea and only cost around £16. If you’re a cloth pad user or new to cloth pads (like me) then you can add pads, sea sponges, or cups for an extra cost. A really great little box to treat yourself with. The Facebook group is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyDaysMonthly/ and the lady in charge is called Tanzi Spencer. She is so lovely and helpful, and if you have any queries she responds super-fast. Honestly some of the best customer services I’ve received so far in my new adventure into the cloth and pamper world. Please check them out!DSCF2419

There was a nice bar of Banana chocolate which I was pretty excited about because I love banana flavoured things and had never tried banana chocolate before. It’s made by a UK company called Kingdom, they’re a ‘Modern British Chocolate’ company. It was really nice chocolate, smooth and milky. I would have loved to have had a stronger banana flavour as it only faintly came through. In fact if I had just been given a piece I probably wouldn’t have noticed it was banana flavoured. Still gorgeous but needs more nana!  They have quite a few different flavours and the website is: http://www.kingdomchocolate.co.uk/ DSCF2420

The Sea Salt crisps were a lot nicer than some of the other Gluten Free products I’ve had in the past, my mum had to cut gluten out of her diet so I’ve tried a lot of these products over the years. The company is called Eat Real and the crisps (chips for you Americans) are Vegan and Vegetarian, as well as gluten free. I admit that for me I would probably want to eat them with a dip of some sort as I find them a little bland just eating them on their own. Not bad in small doses but with a nice salsa dip I could probably eat them all and more. My mum and dad ended up splitting most of the pack between them as they enjoyed them more than I did. I would like to try some of their other flavours though as I’m not usually a sea slat fan. I would probably prefer the chilli and lemon flavour over sea salt. They have a great range available on their website though, really want to try a few of their snack bars, or maybe even the hummus crisps! Take a look: http://www.eatreal.co.uk/ DSCF2412

Next up with have the fruit bar. I have been trying to find health bars that I enjoy recently because I want snacks for my bag that I don’t feel guilty about eating. I’m not in any way weight conscious but as I get a bit older I’m becoming a little health conscious so trying to swap my Snickers bars and Crunchies for something a bit healthier. This bar is lovely! It’s apple and Sultana flapjack which is organic and gluten, milk, peanut, egg, and soya free. The only complaint I have is that they don’t seem to do a banana flavour! What a let-down, I’ll just have to stick to my second favourite of apple. Honestly really nice. The company is called Doves Farm and they were apparently established in 1978, so they know what they’re doing. They’re pretty filling so not a bad idea to have one on a coffee break at work of to keep in your handbag for when you’re out and about, might have to get another box of these. If you have any dietary requirements or just want to order some healthier snacks then take a look at the website: https://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/ DSCF2415

I used the little ball of deodorant after my shower and I like it a lot more than a Lush deodorant bar I bought last year. The Lush one irritated my skin and felt really dry where as this one feels smooth but not oily. I like it so far but haven’t tested out how well it works yet. Feels great, smells great and is the perfect size to put in the suitcase when I travel so I might have to use it as a travel bar to save on spays. Plus I could put it in my handbag to use at work. Yeah I’m a fan so far.

I one again received samples of tea, which I have yet to find a fruit tea I am willing to give up my PG Tips of Yorkshire Tea for. Out of all the teas so far though the wild apple and cinnamon Pukka tea is my favourite, I love the cinnamon tang to it and would probably buy a box of this around Christmas time as it’s pretty festive. Still not a drink I would have often but my mum would probably like them a lot more than I did. As for the second tea which was organic redbush from Clipper, not a fan. A bit too earthy for me I think, but again, my mum loves her fruit teas so it won’t go to waste. Sharing tea bags is great, two for the price of one! Again both of these teas are organic and caffeine free. You can get Pukka teas from their website: http://www.pukkaherbs.com/pukka-products/pukka-teas/    and Clipper teas from theirs: https://www.clipper-teas.com/ DSCF2414

You can also never have too many lip balms. I received an Optima Australian organic tea tree lip balm. It apparently, soothes, protects, and moisturisers your lips. Which is kind of what you’d expect from a lip balm. Really handy for the summer months as it has an SPF 18, so it’ll be going in my holiday bag and my purse for this summer. Not that there’s much point, we’ve probably had our share of sun already and summers just started. Flooding, in June! That’s good old UK for you. This balm does smell quite tea tree like, as you’d expect, but I’m not a fan of the scent. It goes on really easily and feels nice once it’s on, but the smell is a bit off putting for me. I’ll use it for the SPF factor, but it won’t be a balm that I reach for in the shops I don’t think. In case you’re looking for an SPF lip balm, or even a tea tree product balm, cause it’ll be really good for your skin, then the website is: http://www.optimah.com/brands-range.asp?Auto_ID=13 apparently it’s also available in Hollands and Barretts.DSCF2411

My little cloth that came in the box is apparently something to be used instead of things like cotton balls! It’s a little facecloth, cotton ball, thing. Its super soft and I love it! I never even thought about chucking out the cotton balls as well! My new cloth product stash in the making! The supplier is called Claire who runs her own store on Facebook, she hand makes her items which is amazin! Honestly, super soft! Really want to get a few more of these. Her Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/washablewipeshandmadebytuppennytots/?pnref=lhc DSCF2421

My little sachet of hot chocolate unfortunately managed to tear on the way to me, but I managed to scrounge a cup from the half of the powder left in the pack and really enjoyed it. It’s a Lichfields instant hot chocolate and is a Fairtrade product. You do use hot water instead of hot milk so if you’re not a fan of water chocolates then it’s probably not for you. I love them either way and to be honest this is a creamy chocolate, so even though it’s a little watery, you can’t tell as much as with the Cadbury chocolate. A nice little treat for the evening, I’ll stock up for the colder months I think, definitely better than the Cadbury’s one I usually get. I don’t know the website but they are available on amazon. I’m savouring this cup until payday, sweet chocolatey goodness!

Finally, my last little gifts were a set of bath salt crystals, which I won’t be able to use in the bath because I only have a shower unfortunately. I will use them as a foot soak though to try them out, but I can’t really tell you how they are for you leisurely bath takers. They are pretty cute though. There was also a little tea light candle, which I think is a lime scent, it’s fairly strong but will work great to air the house out when the dogs come back wet after their walks!

The box was definitely worth the cost, and it was fun to receive it. I will be buying one in the future, maybe the next one I’ll add some cloth pads to it?! It’s easy to order and as you can all see, you get a lot of stuff! Loved trying new things, even if I didn’t enjoy some of them, I loved trying them out!
