World of Wizardry May 2017 Review

I was really excited for my Harry Potter box this month. I’ve been a bit let down in recent months and so I was expecting a good box, finally. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this box. For those of you that don’t know, the World of Wizardry box is a monthly subscription (or one off) box from GeekGear. They cost around £25 a month but I pay every three months. They are posted around the 21st of every month, around payday for me which is great.

IMG_2161

I’ll dive right into it this month and start off with the t-shirt. They are a good quality t-shirt and you receive an exclusive shirt every box. This month was in either a grey or light blue. Mine was blue and a really nice winged key design on it. It’s a bit different in design to the normal shirts and it was nice to have a bit of a change. Usually it’s a block print, I like it.

That’s it for the wearables for this box. Next, we have a metal storage/lunch box. Perfect for me as I’ve been debating buying a lunch box to take my lunch to work, rather than carrying my food and dropping it as I am now. I’m not blown away by the design or the quality. It is my favourite exclusive to this box item so far. It will do its job. Its big enough to fit in a decent sized lunch and a small bottle of water. It will be used, unlike many of the other items I’ve had recently.

Another thing I liked was the chocolate frog moulds. I probably won’t use them with chocolate but I will make some jelly in them this summer. They aren’t terribly detailed but what do you expect from food moulds? They are cute and unique so again, a nice little addition to the box even if they are a bit tacky.

I’m going to stay on the positives of this box and go straight to the next exclusive item. I really nice print of Hogwarts castle. The box always has some form of poster and this is my favourite so far. It’s a very nice quality and it doesn’t look tacky or childish as some of the others have. I like a lot of the posters I receive in these boxes, this one just stood out as being better.

My final positive is the house specific notebook. I really like the design and feel of this book as well as the fact the house insignia is on each page. Not sure what I’ll use it for but as I’m going into my final year of an English degree, I’m sure it will come in handy.

Now on to the negatives, the space fillers. There is a tacky little wristband that displays your house characteristics. It’s a nice thought, but pointless for me. For people that wear these, it is quite a nice quality and the design is unique and well done. Just not something I will wear.

The next item is not a box filler but I wasn’t blown away by it. The exclusive Harry Potter mug. It’s not the first mug from these boxes and is definitely a better quality then the previous one, but I’m not a fan of the design. This is personal preference though! It is a well-made and nice looking mug in good packaging. I just thought it was a bit predictable, I would like more unique items in these boxes.

This is it for this month. In my opinion, the good outweighs the bad for the first time in months. I love this box, it’s just been letting me down recently. I really hope they keep getting better rather than going back to what it was. I’m not jumping for joy over this box but I did breathe a sigh of relief when I saw good quality items that I could actually use. Not just stuff put in a box to meet a quota. Next months hint is a lightening bolt so it could be anything Harry Potter at the minute. IMG_2183

If you’re interested in purchasing one of these boxes then feel free to use this link: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU I receive a free box for every 5 subscribers so I appreciate anyone that uses this.

Next month is potentially my last box. I am happy with the improvements so far and so I might renew after June’s box but for now, I have one more to come. I am looking into other subscription boxes so feel free to leave any recommendations. Even if it’s because you want to see a review on it before you purchase for yourselves, that’s fine with me. At the minute, I am looking at these boxes: Popinabox, Doki Doki, Japan crate, or Akibento. I really don’t know yet though. I will do a review on whichever box I do purchase though.

Thanks as always for reading!

World of Wizardry March 2017 review

I’ve been waiting for two whole days for this box to arrive. It’s here, I was so excited. This is a review of my March World of Wizardry box which is a monthly box by GeekGear. You can subscribe or buy as a one off box. I pay £24.95 a month. If your interested in purchasing a box, the link is: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

You can choose which house you want your box to be themed. Mine is Ravenclaw once again as even though I am a Hufflepuff, I wear more blue. They deliver worldwide as well so it’s available to all my readers.IMG_2040

I’m going to admit that I really wasn’t impressed with this one. I was really looking forward to the exclusive item that we were promised. It is the cheapest looking, plasticy figure of Hedwig, that I have ever seen. I saw the little box it came in and I couldn’t wait to open it. It is very poor quality. There are apparently two different birds you can get, a gold of a silver. The gold is 1/50 rarity and the silver is 1/25. I got a weird dirty grey colour. It’s likely to go either at the back of a shelf or in the bin if I’m being honest. I think mine is supposed to be silver as it says it only comes in two colours. Oh dear.

Next up is the exclusive tshirt that you receive in every box. This is just as lovely as usual. Good quality, lovely design, and I love the use of colours on this shirt. One of my favourites so far.

There were some very cute stickers, about the size of my palm. Again, good quality. I’m not sure what I’ll use them for but I think I’ll save them for when I start doing some craft projects, maybe over the summer.

There is a decent enough, elder wand necklace. It’s a good weight and not a bad quality. It’s a nice piece of costume jewellery that I will add to my wall display.

Next, we have a Fantastic Beasts keyring. According to the booklet there were two possible keyrings that you could get. The one I received was of the Magical Congress logo. It’s a nice little keyring but a bit boring. They’re made of rubber so it’ll probably get added to my car keys, but it is a little plain. The other keyring you could receive is a little more interesting but not by much. It’s a Newt Scamander keyring, with the initials forming the central symbol. I don’t know a lot about Fantastic Beasts as I’ve only watched it the once, but it might have meaning behind it, let me know!

The set of coasters came next. Nice cork backed metal coasters in the house colours. I’d have liked it if the animal insignias had been on them as well but they’ll definitely get some use. They also came in a nice little black, geekgear tin. This will also be used.

As a little extra there were two pin badges in this box. A Ravenclaw for my house and a Dobby. Now don’t hate me but, I really don’t like Dobby. Found him a bit annoying to be honest. Cute badges none the less. Another addition to the Potter wall.

That just leaves the poster. Every box has a unique poster and this one was no different. I actually really liked this one. I love Hedwig and it shows her flying with a stunning Hogwarts in the background. Really pretty.

So, that’s it for the box. As I said, wasn’t impressed, don’t get me wrong, I liked the items for the most part, I just didn’t think they were worth the money I paid for the box. If the owl figure had been of a better quality, maybe it would have made the box better overall. Who knows. My favourites in this one were the tshirt and the poster. Let me know what you guys thought.

My next review will be a little later than usual as I am away at the end of April but I will upload once I get back. The hint for next month is an image of Hermione even though they have put that it is a March hint, I think they meant April. There were a few typos in this leaflet, but I’m not one to talk. My grammar sucks.

I apologise for the picture quality, the lighting in my room is awful tonight. I have included my Potter wall from my University hall as it will be coming down in a few weeks when I move out. All items on the wall have come from these boxes.

Thanks as always for reading, if you’re interested in one of these boxes the link is: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

Geekgear, world of wizardry, Dec box review

My World of Wizardry Geekgear box arrived in time for Christmas! I was really happy and pretty shocked to see it on my doorstep this morning but it was a great surprise. As I’m sure you all know by now it is a box that I subscribe too and receive every month. I pay in three month instalments and an individual box costs around £24.95 I think. Please check out there site here for more prices and box options: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU also if you follow this link and subscribe then I receive a free box after 5 people use it, so I’m extremely grateful! This box and the following two are my birthday present from my annoying older brother and amazing sister-in-law so thank you both so much!!

On to the box, this one is in my true house colours of a Hufflepuff which is great, was nice to open a box to yellow paper, so much more cheerful then the blue. I’ll start with the wearable items as there were quite a few in this month’s box. The first of which was the usual t-shirt that is once again a well-made shirt. It comes in either yellow or black and I have the yellow one (of course), the phrase printed is super sweet, it says, ‘Hogwarts will Always be there to welcome you home’ and I love it. I will probably use it as a sleep shirt though as it doesn’t really look like one that I would wear every day. I’m happy with sleep shirts, never have too many pyjamas!

Next is a hat that is the colour of your Hogwarts house and so I have a Hufflepuff coloured one. I’ll admit, I don’t really wear hats as I usually pull my hood up but when I do I will wear it with pride! I would probably have preferred a scarf though if I’m completely honest. There is also a set of matching house gloves. Now these I will definitely wear as I was about to buy some new ones as I have lost one of mine and I need gloves. Perfect timing for storm Barbara that’s about to hit the UK. I will still keep my eye out for gloves though as these feel a little small for an adult’s hands and my hands aren’t that big.

There is also a rather weighty Hogwarts crest keyring. It’s a little heavy for me to add it to my keys but I will hang it on my Harry Potter wall back at University. It’s well made and it some type of metal so a good addition, just a little heavy for me to carry in my pocket.

Next up we have a Harry Potter cotton mug. This is both fantastic and a massive let down as the mug cosy is super cute and I really love it and will probably use it for my take away hot drinks so I don’t use as many cardboard holders. I love it. The mug however, is just a plain white mug, it’s fine and usable but I’m a bit disappointed that there was no Harry Potter design on it. Not even in the colouring.

I’m not sure what I could use the next item for so I welcome any ideas you guys might have. It’s a Hogwarts crest patch, one of the iron patches that you can put on clothes and things. I don’t really have any clothes suitable and I don’t carry a bag around with me. It’s a very good quality and I really like it, just not sure what I can do with it, certainly not pin it up as I don’t want to ruin it!

There is also a magnet, it has a Hogwarts crest in your house colour on it. Not much to say about it really, it’s a magnet, it sticks to metal objects.

The final item is the usual print work. I wasn’t impressed with this month’s one, it’s a Fantastic Beat theme but I find the portrait a little creepy. The beasts are done well but the colours are so dark that they’re hard to distinguish. Talented artist but it’s not for me.

Overall, it’s been a good box, not a great one, but not bad. The t-shirt and the mug cover are my favourites but, I’m hoping for a better box next month. The hint is Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes so it should be great!

This is likely my last post before Christmas so I hope you all have a great holiday weekend and stay safe!

Thank you for reading and Merry Christmas!

World of Wizardry Geek Gear October 2016 Review

The highlight of my month is here and just in time to cheer me up. Once again been ill so seeing this waiting for me today was amazing.img_1786

So I’m sure your all aware by now that I subscribe to the World of Wizardry box from Geekgear that arrives every month posted between the 21st to the 23rd. The box comes in a brilliant crate like design with the Hogwarts crest around the edge. You also specify which house you belong to so your box is personalised to you. I still have Ravenclaw. It’s around £24.95 per month and if you get 5 people to subscribe you get a free box so please use this link and buy yourselves a treat: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

This box was full of both useful and useless things as they usually are. The one thing I am in love with is the small illustrated 2017 calendar. The pictures are gorgeous and it will help me keep track of my deadlines and assignments next year which is a double bonus. I won’t show all the month’s photos because that would ruin the fun but I’ve included April just to show you how amazing it really is.

I also received a little prefect badge (pin) which is in Ravenclaw blue and comes specific to your house colour. It’s a nice size and will go on my Harry Potter noticeboard that has been filling rapidly with these boxes. Anyways the badge isn’t anything amazing, it’s cute though and was boxed really nicely with a personal note from Professor McGonagall.

A couple of posters included which were in a cardboard tube so they weren’t damaged in the postage process. Really nice Hogwarts house poster but I love the Proclamation! It’s brilliant and the message is hilarious! Centre of the wall I think. As well as a double sided print which I think I might display the Hogwarts side of but I’ll wait and see how I feel. Some great artwork in the box, blown away by the skill and thought that went into these prints.

One thing I didn’t really understand was the Platform 9¾ metal wall sign, it was really well made but it makes the previous posted a bit pointless. I know this was the theme of the box but would have preferred one or the others. Not a fan of metal work so maybe that’s why I didn’t really like it that much. It is well made though, a little cheap as expected but the image is really well done, can only tell its cheap when you turn it over.img_1788

Also a nice little coffee mug which is great because I was thinking of buying one now that it’s getting colder. Again, a very cheap quality but the writing and footsteps really pop on the white background and is very cute. I like it but not sure how much I trust it. Will have to do a test run with cold liquid first.

I like the little added bonus of the Hogwarts ribbon as well. I’ve been meaning to try making some hairclips from this type of ribbon as I’m seen some very crafty people do in the past so this gives me the incentive. Not sure how useful an item it is as I wouldn’t want to waste it by wrapping other people’s presents in it! My ribbon! Hands off!

Then finally this boxes t-shirt! It came in two colours, a purple or a grey. Can’t decide which I would have preferred as I love both colours but I received the grey. Haven’t tried it on yet but the placement is great and I love the design so no faults so far. It will be small like the previous ones so it should fit perfectly.

All in all, a very happy customer this month! Some good, some great, all will be used! A good cheer up after watching the latest Walking Dead which destroyed me this morning. A cheer up after illness as well. Honestly if you want to pamper yourself and cheer yourselves up then please consider this box! Or even as a gift for someone! It’s a lovely teat at the end of the month. Next month’s hint is Gringotts so that will be fun to see. It will also be the Christmas box next month due to them shipping internationally and wanting to make sure everyone gets their Christmas goodies before the day itself.

img_1804Once again my referral link is here, no different from the direct website just shows that you found the box through me which makes me happy! https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

Thanks as always for reading! Also sorry that a lot of my photos face the wrong way! That’s my great photography skills at work!

GeekGear World of Wizardry September 2016 review

It’s here! My second GeekGear Harry Potter box! They have changed its name to the ‘World of Wizardry’ box. After all the goodies I received last month I went back and paid for a three-month subscription as you save a little bit of money if you pay in bulk. This box does deliver Worldwide as far as I’m aware so please check it out. The link is: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU

The link I share takes you to the website but if you purchase a box then it shows that you found the box through me. If five of you lovely readers purchase a subscription using this link, then I get a free box so pretty please share the love!

On to the actual review. I received an email on the 21st to say the box was posted and it arrived on the 23rd. It would have been next day if I didn’t live on a campus, so super quick delivery. Every box is decorated as a crate and has the Harry Potter crests on either side. They continue this theme with any smaller boxes inside which is pretty cool. I also love the fact they use coloured paper in the box depending on your Hogwarts house. Mine is blue which as I mentioned in my previous blog, I chose Ravenclaw even though I’m a Hufflepuff as I prefer the colour scheme. You can choose which house you like or just to receive a mix, depends on personal preference.

In every box there is a pamphlet that shows the information on all the items and the box itself. It also gives a hint of what the following months theme will be. October’s hint is: Hogwarts Express.

My favourite item in this box was the Ollivanders t-shirt, the sizing is perfect (you select in advance) and I like the fact it is a darker colour as the white one from last month has gone into the pyjama shirt pile. Still wear it a lot though! The quality of their shirts is amazing and you get a shirt in every box that is unique to Geekgear so you don’t want to miss out!

This month even included a Lord Voldemort replica wand! It’s really solid and I don’t have one already! I have Snape’s and I think I have Luna’s but none of the others so it’s great for this to go in my collection. It even comes with a note of authenticity!

Another item them I don’t have is a Deathly Hallows necklace, it’s something I’ve been meaning to purchase as I love the design. This one is pretty sturdy, still obviously costume jewellery but it’s nice quality. I actually have it hung on my noticeboard over the Azkaban poster that also came in the box. It’s great to finally have a bit of decoration up. Anyways, the necklace does have a spinning inner circle which is a nice touch and will be worn as often as I can get away with.

The next item is personalized per your house request, it’s a Proud to be ‘Ravenclaw’ badge, it’s a decent size and is currently also attached to my noticeboard. Maybe by the end of the year I will have a Harry Potter themed board thanks to this box! If I do, I’ll make sure to share a few pictures!

Another really useful item is the tea towel. It has Hogwarts written across it and whilst it’s a bit big it arrived just in time. Like I said, back on campus and I only brought one tea towel so I would have been off to buy another soon, now it’s a Hogwarts one! Thank you GeekGear!

I did find the little blank Hogwarts letters a bit boring. I know some people will love being able to print out their own Hogwarts acceptance letter or they might even print them out for their kids. I know I’d have loved one for my 11th birthday, but as I’m going on 25 I know that my letter was lost in the post back then. I will hang on to these and maybe build them into my wall of Potter?

The final item is one that I’m really worried I’ll break. A replica of the Marauders map. It completely folds outwards and is really well made and will definitely be treasured. It’s a perfect addition to the box! I love it! The details are amazing and I really don’t want it getting damaged!

That’s it for this month’s box. A great hall as far as I’m aware. Please let me know what you thought of your own boxes! If you don’t already order it then please give it a try. If it’s not for you then you can cancel your subscription at any time or even do as I did and order a one off box to try out. Be quick though as I’ve been told they’re selling out fast! Anyways my recommendation link is: https://geekgearbox.cratejoy.com/refer/Charl-MZUMOIKU please use the link to help me towards a free box. Even if you don’t use the link please don’t hesitate to purchase one as they really are great little treats!img_1761

Thanks so much for reading!

Harry Potter GeekGear August box review

As I love receiving subscription boxes I thought I would treat myself to a Harry Potter themed box. I don’t regret it in the slightest! This month’s box had a villain theme and cost £24.99. I’ve also realised that it’s cheaper if you subscribe for the box as it goes down to £19.99 per month. They also ship Worldwide as far as I’m aware! You can choose between two different boxes, a general Geek themed box which includes items from different Geeky backgrounds or a purely Harry Potter themed box as I did. When you look through the previous boxes that have been issued you can see that they consistently offer great value and so I wasn’t unhappy to place an order. You can select which house you belong to and the box will be themed according to this selection, I chose Ravenclaw, mainly because I really like blue, would probably be a Hufflepuff if I’m being honest with myself, but not a fan of the colour yellow.

I’ve contacted the site a few times in regards to codes available either for myself or that I can offer to my readers (there’s a code at the bottom!) and have found the staff very friendly to deal with. They do however give out very generic responses and it feels a bit like I’m talking to a polite computer when I get a message back from them. They also didn’t give me much information to include for you all. I could write a 5-page message and I’d get a few sentences back in return. This could be improved if you ask me. I didn’t write an email that long, just so you know!

The packaging of the box was brilliant, it’s wrapped in a plastic envelope and the box inside is designed like a crate. This crate was decorated in multiple little Harry Potter images. Very nice box. The items inside were wrapped really well, the bottle of Butterscoth butterbeer was a little overwrapped if you ask me. Lots of bubble wrap. At least it arrived in one piece though. The drink itself tastes a bit like melted caramel ice-cream which was a little overly sweet for me and the family but we shared it between us and enjoyed the novelty of it. Just wouldn’t be able to have a whole bottle to myself. This is an alcohol free drink and the labels are designed in a way that it looks like you’ve purchased it from a Harry Potter themed establishment. The Flying Cauldron label was perfect. I drank it from the very well made little Three Broomsticks half a pint glass tankard that also came in the box. I love this glass, just have to avoid putting it in my dishwasher so it stays looking like I’ve been drinking in Harry Potter land. These products really match this boxes them which was a ‘Three Broomsticks’ theme, next month’s teaser image is a Dark Mark so I can’t wait to see what’s in it!

One piece of packaging that was a bit over the top was the cardboard snitch box. This is a fairly decent size that I would expect to see something the size of the tankard come out of, instead you get a nice little snitch necklace that opens to show a clock face.

It’s a nice enough necklace but it was a bit out of place coming from that box. It also seems a little bit cheap, something I could have purchased from Claire’s accessory and whilst I like the idea, I wasn’t overly amazed. I think I would have preferred it if it had been a bracelet or on a shorter chain. I’ve since been told that it’s actually a pocket watch which explains the length, I still think I’ll take it off the chain and just keep it in my pocket for work.

In every box you will receive a uniquely designed T-shirt that is made by this company and not sold in stores. In this box it is a Disney castle logo that shows Hogwarts instead of Cinderella’s castle. It fits perfectly and is really soft and comfortable. I really love it and will be taking it to Disney with me when I go next year. My only downside is that it’s white, I’m a bit too pale to get away with wearing white without looking a bit washed out. It won’t stop me wearing it though!

The box included paper replicas of the Knights bus ticket and a train ticket for Platform 9¾. These were nice little additions but not really very useful, I like things to have a bit more of a purpose, although I can always pin them to my board along with the Ravenclaw flag that I received in the box. Could have a Harry Potter themed board when I get back to my student accommodation.

Whilst I liked but disliked some of the items I received I still loved the box. The excitement of receiving such unique Harry Potter themed items was worth every penny and I think I’ll subscribe to get the box every month. I really did love it and recommend it to everyone. Just buy it as a one off box if you prefer, that way you can try it out and see how you feel. Choose your house, and join the community.

Don’t forget to share your selfie with the items in order to enter a prize draw, I took two but my favourite is this one by far:  #ILOVEGEEKGEAR! IMG_1599

The next box is themed ‘Future’ which is perfect as it coincides with my return to University. I’ll be putting my order in this weekend and eagerly anticipating the last week of September. If you guys also wish to place an order, then you can use the code NEWSUB10 and get 10% off your first purchase. The link for the site is: http://www.geekgearbox.co.uk/
