Metal Earth Cinderella Castle, craft project

Finally, a craft update for you all. This one is a little different to my usual craft attempts. On my recent trip to Disneyworld I picked up a Metal Earth project. I had never heard of these before but I was intrigued. They all looked stunning on the pictures and I had to buy the Cinderella castle model. I did forget to take pictures of things before I started the project so I apologise for that, however I have taken one of the metal frame the pieces came from and the packaging.

I have never attempted anything like it. No glue or tools needed apparently. Utter rubbish! I needed tools. I used a pair of tweezers to manipulate the pieces and a scalpel to remove the bloody things from the frame. I also needed to used glue four times overall, mainly because I broke the tiny pieces when I became angry, but that’s not my fault! They’re small! A word of warning, the pieces are quite sharp so this kit is really not suitable for younger people. The packaging says 12+ but I know a few 12 year olds that wouldn’t be great with this so use caution. The instructions that come with the kit took a tiny amount of figuring out but that may just be because I don’t usually do this type of thing. They were really straight forward once I realised what the colours of the pieces meant. If they are in a certain colour that means there are more than one of that shape, so they are not just spares as I initially thought. Woops.

Anyways, its finished and honestly, I’m pretty proud of myself. It’s a bit lopsided in places and wobbly but look at it! It’s really pretty. It’s going on my newly cleared shelf that I am hoping to fill with things like it. I am looking at buying a few more of these as I did enjoy building it despite my frustration. I have my eye on a Star Trek Enterprise one as well as a great looking Tiger Tank. There are a lot of them that are available on Amazon, I even saw a few in Waterstones on my last visit. Price wise they are around £15 I think. This one was bought on site in Disney Florida so it was probably around $30, think they had a deal on if you bought two but I had a voucher that only covered one so I didn’t bother. A nice little project, doesn’t take long to complete, maybe a few hours for beginners like me. I probably took around 5-6hours to complete it.

And there we have it, a little crafty update. I’ve done a few other things which I’ll try and write about soon, but for now please let me know how you got on with these kits. Send photos! Would love to see the results. Also, to find out if I’m the only one that resorted to super glue.

Thanks for reading!

My Days winter box 2016 review

Unfortunately, the lady who runs the My Days boxes has decided to stop selling them, if you head over to the Facebook page she has some great closing down sales that I believe will be happening through the next few months to use up the last of her stocks. The page is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyDaysMonthly/

I had ordered myself the Christmas box back in September so I’m afraid I can’t remember exactly how much I paid for it but it was around £30 because I included a pad as an extra treat. I was very happy with this box and was very happy to see a personal note explaining that substitutions have been made for me as I can’t have bath products. Makes you feel like the organisers actually care about you, and it wasn’t only the bath products but my intolerance to onion and garlic that was taken into consideration, she checked all the products (as its often in crisps), which is great customer services!img_1876

On to the items in the box, I’ll start with the cloth pad as I haven’t had one from this box before. Tanzi (the owner) has a monthly order from Luna Chick and I must say, I’m impressed. The quality of the pad is amazing and it’s my first Christmas themed pad! Super excited over that, really wish I had ordered the scrundies to go with it as they look brilliant. This maker does a range of products, including clothing for women and children. If you interested, then take a look at hew Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/LunaChickUK/ or her etsy store here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LunaChickUK?ref=search_shop_redirect

Staying on the theme of reusable products, I also received a Toggle Wheat bag from Ancient Wisdom. I love the idea of this bag but I found the smell a little off. I love lavender as a scent but this doesn’t really appeal to me as it smells a bit stale, I think that’s the best way to describe it. The quality of the bag is fantastic and I am thinking that I may just repack it with some fresh wheat and lavender. I have had products from this company before and they haven’t really impressed me. It’s closed with Velcro so it won’t be a problem to undo and use fresh after a wash. A great idea but I wouldn’t buy from Ancient Wisdom. There site is www.Ancient-Wisdom.info but I don’t think you can purchase here, they may only do bulk orders.

Sticking with fabric based products, there is a really adorable crocheted star ornament for the Christmas tree. I think its brilliant and a nice addition to the box. I’m not sure who the supplier is as it doesn’t have a label but if I find out I will add it here: I admit, I’m jealous of their crochet skills, mine have not improved much, should really practice more.

Ok, pamper goodies are next. The first of which is a Juicy Burst facemask It’s a paraben free mask from ooh-arr that sounds fantastic, will definitely be using it on my next pamper day. I will be taking it back to University with me as sometimes I really need a pamper when I’m there. For more information as well as how to purchase, there website is: http://www.ooh-arr.com/

The second pamper item is a nail brush, I’ll be honest and say I have no idea how to use one of these. I have seen them before and it looks like it’s a good quality, but I may need to google how to use it. Both of these pamper items were my replacement items, the initial pamper goody was a bath bomb, but I only have a shower.

There were a few scented items in the box like I handmade soap which was really nice, just a bit too strong for me and so it has been given to a friend, along with the Ancient Wisdom scented granules. They were pine scented and a little too sweet for my delicate nose. Great additions but better in the hands of my friend, sorted my stocking filler gifts out though!

Next we have the drinks. There is the usual Lichfields hot chocolate which I love. Honestly can’t recommend this brand of hot chocolate enough, the box is worth it just for this. I don’t have a link but I know it can be found on amazon. Also two different teas, we have our Pukka which is wild apple and cinnamon which I am saving to have on Christmas morning as I actually like apple tea so it’ll be a treat. The other tea is a Hampstead Organic Peppermint tea. Now with all my nausea and stomach problems recently, I am super happy to have this as I’ve been wanting to see if it helps settle my stomach but I didn’t want to buy a box in case it was wasted. I know I’m not a big fan of the taste but it’s worth it if it settles my tummy so thank you Tanzi! There is also a Peppermint Chai Latte, I’m a bit weary of it as it sounds good but I don’t particularly enjoy Chai, I’m actually saving this for Christmas as well as we have my brother and sister-in-law coming round so we can all try it together.img_1879

Next is the all important treats. We have two different bars of chocolate, the first being by AngeliQ which I haven’t seen before. It’s a 70% dark chocolate made of Peruvian cocoa which sounds fancy, it is an Orange and Cranberry flavour and is really nicely packaged. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a fan of orange chocolate and so this is likely to go in my dad’s belly but I have tried it and wow is it dark. You can really taste the orange coming through and its not bad for dark chocolate, I can’t taste any cranberry though. If you like dark or orange chocolate, then I really recommend as even I wasn’t put off by the flavour and I’m fussy. The website is: http://www.iqchoc.com/ I’m impressed with their options and they are gluten, dairy, nuts, and soya free, they are also vegan. Very impressive, the website tells you which stores stock their chocolate near you and allows you to buy online. I’m going to order a few flavours in future I think, once my current stash is reduced a bit. On to chocolate bar number two, it is a Divine bar which I have heard off, and its Dark Chocolate with Cranberries and Hazelnuts, very festive. Again, very dark but the bitterness of the chocolate is reduced with the cranberries. I’m trying to eat darker chocolate as its healthier but not doing very well so far. This is good though, I ate an entire piece without pulling a face. I was a little sad that the bottom corner of the bar was slightly damaged but it didn’t affect the bar itself and this box is so full that I’m shocked that more things weren’t damaged! That is a compliment, not a criticism! Can’t believe how much was in this box!

There was a third chocolate item but this was in coin form. That right, 70% Dark Chocolate coins that are also from Divine. My only downside to this brand is that they aren’t gluten free. I’m not coeliac or gluten intolerant but a lot of my friends are and It would have been nice to share it, guess that just means more for me. The website for these is: www.divinechocolate.com if I’m honest, if it wasn’t for the fact I like the cranberry taste, I would say go to the IQ chocolate website that’s above instead, better quality and allergy awareness from what I can tell.

The final food item is a Perk!er Quinoa bar, it is Goji and Cranberry flavour, which if you can’t tell, I love cranberries. I had it on my break at work today and it was nice. Not my favourite health snack bar but I would buy more of them if I saw them. I’m not a large quinoa fan so that might be why I wasn’t blown away but, it had great flavour and it is gluten, wheat and dairy free as well as being vegan. If your any of these things and struggle to find snacks, then I recommend trying this. The website is: www.perkier.co.uk I would be quite interested in trying their porridge range, might be a healthier alternative for breakfast.

The final two items were the usual tealight candle, in a lovely orange scent which I’m happy with and a reusable facecloth, not as soft as the first one I received but it has baubles on it! I love it!

Thank you for reading, and buy these boxes fast before they stop being available! I’m sorry to see My Days closing as it’s been a great way to try new things. Yes, some of the things have not suited me, but I have found a lot of snacks that I now actively look for when I’m shopping, all tanks to the wonderful Tanzi. Sorry to see you go!

(Sorry there aren’t as many individual pictures, a few problems with my camera uploading)

Those Freshers are lookin a bit crafty

I promise that I haven’t given up on my whole ‘learn a new skill’ resolution, it’s just going very slowly. I did make a few pompoms which I enjoyed but haven’t taken any photos of and they’re at home so I can’t show proof. I promise I made actual round pompoms though! Even tied them together and made a snowman, sewed a little hat and scarf and everything. I’ll show you all when I get home for Christmas.

Anyways, I am currently back at university for the Freshers week and have absolutely nothing to do before classes start next week and so I decided to focus on my reading and my crochet. I went into the local crafts store and she gave the advice that many of you have already given me. I was to buy a bigger hook and thicker wool. I did just that and here is the result.img_1734

Not perfect at all and for some reason it doesn’t maintain its shape. Is that because I change how tightly I pull the hook through the yarn do you think? I’m pretty proud of myself for what I have so far, planning to keep going so I have a very thin and misshapen scarf or something to that effect.

So it’s just a quick little update, I’m thinking of getting even thicker yarn and an even thicker hook but I’ll see how I feel next time I’m out shopping. Please send me ideas for fun things a beginner like myself can make as I would love to actually make something.

Thanks for reading!

My Days August 2016 Pamper box

IMG_1632This box contained a few different goodies that I had never tried (or heard of) before. The tangy lime infused raisins were really yummy. They are the Nãkd brand snacks and I think they’re part of the Naked bar range which I love! I’m a big fan of my citrus flavours and really enjoyed the small bag. They did leave my tongue a bit tingly as they are a little sour, or ‘Tangy’ as the name implies. I loved them so much that I went and bought the other two flavours from Holland and Barretts, Coco-cola, and cherry. They’re only 49p and perfect for a light snack.

I didn’t try the chocolate orange bar as I really don’t like orange flavoured chocolate. My dad loves it though and so I gave it to him, he seemed to enjoy it as it went really fast. I have tried the Divine chocolate range before and I love their products and really recommend you guys buy them as they do a great range of flavours. Just the orange flavour that isn’t really for me.

The chickpea crisps were great fun to try, I’m sorry to you lot that enjoy them but they smelt gross. My mum ate a few and really liked them but then realised she shouldn’t eat them because of two ingredients that don’t agree with her (or me). They were just weird but then again I’m not a big crisp eater, except for quavers, love me some quavers. Another product that went to daddy’s belly.

There was another of the Lichfields hot chocolate sachets, which is being saved for a bad day as the last sachet was. Might even save it for my first day back to student accommodation, a treat qhilst my cupboards are bare.

Also two new teas to try out. The happy Monday one is the same as one I received in a previous box and I’m going to save it for when I have a winter cold as it’s citrusy and will be perfect for when I’m feeling a bit off. The second is also a citrus type tea, Lemon Valerian. It sounds very Game of Thrones like and I can’t wait to try it out. I will save it for when the weather cools down a bit though as I’m not in much of a tea mood when it’s so hot outside. Who’d have thought the sun would even reach the Isle of Man for once?!

The mango chocolate has got to be the oddest thing I’ve heard off in chocolate so far. I was extremely dubious at first and was all for letting someone else be the guinea pig and see how they reacted after sampling it, but I didn’t. I broke off a single piece and gave it a quick sniff (as you do) before placing it in my mouth. Yeah this was oddly enough, not bad. I couldn’t eat all of a bar too myself, at least not in one sitting, but it was quite enjoyable, just a bit sweet. I imagine that’s the lime flavour, maybe the mango. Had a bit of a kick in the after taste as well which must have been the chilli hitting. It was great to try it because I would have never bought it for myself. I like it!

That’s it for the snacks and even though I didn’t get on with some of them it was great giving them all a go. There was one item in this box that I really didn’t get on well with and that was the Ancient Wisdom massage and bath oil. It was a bit too strong scented for me, really not a fan. Did add a few drops of it into Baby Oil to use on my mum’s elbow (She’s got a broken elbow that she massages to help it loosen up) but it gave her a small rash so I’m afraid I won’t be using more of this. Only downside so far.

Next major item from this box was a 100% Natural toothpaste that was Citrus and Aloe Vera flavour. I’ve never used a natural toothpaste before and was very intrigued as it smelt brilliant and sounded like a great idea. I did try it out and once I got over the fact that it wasn’t minty I actually really liked it. It tastes quite lemony and not herbal like I was expecting it too. I don’t think it’s something I would purchase on a regular basis as I’m really conscious about my teeth and have my routine set for cleaning them but I wouldn’t be off put to use this until it runs out, it’s going on my shelf. In fact, I might use it as my night toothpaste that way I’m minty fresh for work and citrusy for bed. It does get a thumbs up for those of you wanting to swap over.

One of my favourite items this month was the little lolly face cloths. When I first saw it I thought it was some kind of Marshmallow lolly but it’s two face cloth towels wrapped up to form the cute lolly in the photo. The towels are very soft and the perfect size, they’re stuck together in one corner which I think will pull apart but I’ve left it as it is for now as it works for me. These little beauties are coming with me to uni next month. I needed some and now I have some. Very happy and perfect little design. Great idea for a little stocking filler present for you oddballs that have started Christmas shopping already!

In every box you receive a tea light candle and a reusable cloth. The blue of this cloth is one of my favourite colours so I was very happy with it. Still not as soft as the first one I received but still really nice. The tea light is very orange and isn’t overpowering at all so it’s perfect. The last one has just been used so this arrived in time to replace it and it smells really refreshing and subtle so I’m happy.

Some of you might ask why I thought this was such a fantastic box when I disliked a lot of the things I tried. The answer to that is that I loved to try all the goodies that came in this box. Yes, the crisp things were very yucky but it was something I would never have tried before and I love the fact that I got to try them out.

I would love it if the boxes contained a bit more information on the products, maybe a little guide to show the retail value of what is being received as it would help me know whether or not I would have purchased the items for myself. Also it would really help me be more aware of how good a value the Pamper box is. The Facebook group is a great help for finding out more information but it would be great to already have it in the box itself. This box costs £16 with a £3 postage charge and was the cheaper option for these boxes, there are other available, Including boxes with scrundies and cloth pads. Please go and check them out at the My Days Pamper box Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyDaysMonthly/ and enjoy. This will be my last box until Christmas now unfortunately as I’m now going to be a poor student and can no longer afford to treat myself. So please go and treat yourselves in my place! Share with me your gorgeous purchases so I can live vicariously through all of my readers!

Thank you all for reading!

Supplies now ordered, let the stress begin

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0030S4B90/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=li1&tag=chasworofwis-21&linkId=390d7ac8f392f54e04cf80a42ed978fc”

It’s getting serious, I’ve ordered my own quilting supplies rather then waiting for Christmas. Like I said, patience isn’t my strong point!

If you lovely readers can recommend any other ‘essentials’ please let me know as I don’t want to waste too much fabric just to practice.

Sorry this isn’t a real review, more of an update on my determination to learn a new skill!

A crafted moose, of weird moose shaped bit of fluff

Finally! A crafty update. It’s been a while since I did any crochet and so this week I decided to have a try at something new (for me anyways.) I attempted…..a Granny square! Yes, I have been told that these are very easy and make a lovely design however, i’m not even going to show you my first attempt as it would make you all bang your heads against the wall.

I know, you’re all very impressed with my progress over my previous updates and of course it doesn’t seem to have taken fifty steps backwards since the last entry. I tried, I followed videos and guides and banging my head against a wall but I didn’t succeed. Not this time, or the next time, and very likely I failed a few other times that I won’t mention. I’ll just show you the evidence below.

As you can guess, I got so good that I practically stopped following the directions, I did so on purpose to create the masterpieces you see before you. I think I might go back to trying my squares for a little bit just to feel as though I’m not a complete crochet failure.

On the plus side of things, I went back to the straight rows, then got a bit bored and decided to be adventurous (I know, I know, not a good idea) I think it was worth the risk. Look a Moose! He’s a work of art! I set off from the start to make a moose I swear. If you don’t think he looks like a moose, then I will be very sad so for now it’s a moose!

Sorry not much of an update, but I’m really not a quick learner when it comes to crafts, it was fun to try a flower but even the beginner videos are more advanced then I am. I am considering trying out making a quilt at some point as I have a few different fabrics so that will be something I look at doing maybe over my Christmas holiday. I’ve seen tutorials and am going to buy a proper set of tools so I can do it properly. I’m a bit impatient so I’m going to do it very slowly and take a lot of breaks so don’t be disheartened if this is the last you hear of it for a very long time. I’ll keep you all updated on my progress when I get it started though.

For now, lots of odd bits of cotton lying around my room, my dogs are happy to steal them so at least it’s benefiting someone.

A crafty update

Today has been a bit of a crafty day again as I’ve tried a few new little projects. Both with my cloth pad making and my crochet. I’ll start with the cloth pads. I’ve managed to make a few more from my own penned out design and I’m getting a lot better at my top stitching. Still need to work on my starting stich as my pads don’t turn over very symmetrically. I tried altering my design slightly and things ended up a little better but my wings didn’t look very nice. I’ll work on my original design again and try a few new things.

I did try to do an exposed core pad as well as I’ve seen a few videos and tutorials on how to do this and really wanted to try it out but my sewing machine didn’t want to cooperate with me. The thread keeps snagging or breaking. I’ve tried changing threads, rethreading an altering the thread tension but none of this seemed to help. I’ve given up for today and I think I’ll give it another go soon.

As for the crochet, I’ve tried little crochet flowers and haven’t done very well. I got a bit sick of doing straight rows and ending up with off shape squares and thought I’d try something else. It hasn’t worked so far but I’ll keep having a go when I get the chance. I haven’t included pictures because it went so wrong it pretty much unravelled and so I have nothing to show for my effort, but trust me, it looked great….ish.

A bit of a short update but I honestly haven’t been up to much this week. Will try and be a bit busier next week and maybe get a few more reviews done. It’s my own fault, I’ve been watching a new anime and got a bit caught up with it. It’s called ‘Free!’ and it’s about a swimming club which sounds boring but it has a lot of really likeable characters. I heard about it through a YouTube channel that I follow, ‘Dollastic’ who gets really excited about loads of stuff and is really fun to watch, she really cheers you up so here’s her link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI_DrjoooGWVxAPt7N3Ybag

If there’s anything you want me to write about or if you have any crochet patterns you think I should try out please let me know!
